Boxer Buddy
Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has a 7 month old female and what she is in height at the withers? I measured my girl yesterday and she just turned 7 months old on the 29th and she was only 17" tall at the withers, does that seem SMALL to anyone else? I know they grow at different rates ect but it is worring me to death...Her parents are both at the standard size for boxers and it is worring me so much because she is supossed to be shown,I have already put alot of work into her show training and whatnot and have already had a puppy match what if she don't make it to standard... I have talked to a few people who have her litter mates and they are all within her height and weight...all about 17" and 35lbs except the male(only one in litter) is slightly bigger as in about 5 lbs and an inch bigger but thats it... Any suggestions? anyone have a 7 month old i can compare her too? any standing pictures you might have I can see?Or what was everyones female in height when she was 7 months old... ANy help would be greatly appreciated to ease my mind... Thanks in advance

My Maggie just turned 9 months old, but she has been about this same size since 7 months... She's around 48lbs & 21 1/2" tall. She doesn't look like 48lbs, she's lanky... I'll try to find a standing pic & post it, I know I have one posted of her running- but it's hard to judge size. Both her parents were very big, I've always been told that Boxers don't max out in size until about 2 years of age...

Heidi is now 7 months and is about 20" in height at the withers (when I can get her standing still long enough). She weighs about 35lbs now. I feel she's on the small size as well. We used to measure her every week, but now I only do it once a month since she doesn't grow as fast. I hope she continues to get a bit bigger, but I love her crazy butt anyway!

Don't panic

Since I am still in the learning stage of showing and don't have my first show dog "yet", I may be wrong, but I don't think there is a penalty for a bitch being too small. I believe the AKC standard states something like the female shouldn't be over the average size and the male shouldn't be far under the average size.... this is from memory so I may have it wrong. It may make her less competetive just as a plain in a flashy group, but if she is outstanding otherwise she may still do well. I've gone to several shows myself and have seen some smaller ones out there struttin their stuff. My pup's littermate is showing and he is small but seems to being doing well, he has 4 points I think at age 11 months and he is smaller than my girl who is 22" now. I'm sure some of the more experience show people can offer better advice.

On the other hand, I know how you feel, I measured my girl incorrectly at age 8 months and thought she was well under the standard size. That bothered me too and I'm not even showing her. Give her time... I've read that they usually end up the same size as their parents.
