Boxer Pal
My Maggie will be seven month old this week. We just got back from the vet for our six months heart worm prevention. She weighed 42 lbs and was twenty inches tall. My vet said that she would most likely not get any taller but would put on more weight as she gets older. I was some what disapointed about her height statement . For those out there who are much more educated on boxer standards, is my Maggie small for her age and is she below boxer standard in this aspect? Do you think she will get any taller. I was under the impression that boxers grew in height until they are about a year old. Thanks for your imput on this boxer standard matter!smashicon

It is hard to say without seeing her, but my seven month old pups have a lot of growing to do. As far as height goes, take a look at her front legs. At the front, are they smooth?? Or do they have a lump still, at the pastern joint? If there is still a bump, she is not finished growing. This is a growth plate and when she has reached her height, this joint will be smooth. Kind of hard to explain.

The boxer standard for females is 21 to 23.5 inches at the shoulders.

Of course 20 inches tall makes for a better lap dog.

:D :D

Pastern Joint

Know where that is on a horse but on a dog I'm not sure. Are you talking where the hock meets the "thigh?" Gwad I need to wake up, can't think of the words. Or down where paw meets hock? Essentially the ankle?

Jeez. And I was thinking the back leg. Ok. Is there someway to discern from the size of the lump how much taller the dog will be?

Maddux seems to be average in size but this breeding seems to have a later growth spurt. I still don't think he'll be as big as the boys in the ring.

At 7 months, its unlikely that Maggie has finished growing. By the time she's done she will probably be a perfectly normal size boxer girl. :)

I just gotta say........... WHEW!!!! :)

Annie is 7 months, and she grew like a weed for a few months, but has slowed tremendously in the last month and a half. Almost to where we can't even tell that she's still growing. I've heard "they grow 'up' for the first 12 months, then grow out for the next six". I've never heard of the pastern bump, but I'll be checking that out. Just need to squeeze out another inch or two.

I checked. Annie still has lumps. appicon

Annie is 43 lbs, 20 1/2 inches. She was in her first show this weekend. She was as big as all of the other puppies in her class.

Don't worry about Maggie, she's right on schedule!
