Actually if your dog has heartworms and has been on heartgard, they guarantee their product. If your dog does get heartworms while on their product, they will pay for treatment. You may want to look into this.

If im not mistaken, heartgard can also be used to treat heartworm, but to be safe contact your vet for the correct treatment, if she has already tested positive, I would not give another dose of treatment until speaking to your vet.

I have that right now. Ruckus actually tests positive for heartworms. I've always had him on pills. He has a "faint line", meaning he does have the ?larvae? in his system, but it's not overly active. He has NO symptoms, and since he is 14 years old, I opted NOT to put him through treatment. My vet said that he is NOT in pain and has no signs so right now, I'm not going to put him through the pain of the treatments.

yeah, dakota is still very active. she doesn't cough or anything. she looks and seems fine to me. it may be in the early stages of development (larvae). my vet recommended to still give her the heartgard. she says that it will not harm her. maybe someone can help on this....can heartworms be passed on to pups in the womb. i'm not planning on breeding her, but she is in heat. just wondering, if something were to happen beyond my control.
