My 20 month old baby has been licking (not any part of her body) lately. Similar how we human do when our mouths are dry. She does it a bit in her sleep just before nodding off and occasionally when she is just lying on the couch, resting. I did check her mouth during one of these licking incidents and noticed her mouth was actually quite moist. Of course there have been times when her mouth becomes quite moist with drool, and this is usually followed with vomiting. Since we have had her from puppyhood, she has vomited about 4 times and I recognize the signs of oncoming vomit. And when she does, it's a quick purge and she's good to go.
So my question:
Is this licking, swallowing and excess saliva a sign of heartburn? If any fellow boxer lovers have had similar experiences and found a cause and/or cure, it would of course be sincerely appreciated.
P.S. her diet consists California Natural (Lamb and Rice formula) Kibbles mixed with our home made food - Lean hamburger, carrots, brown rice, sweet potatoes, peas.
And this mixture we supplement with Missing Link Omega 3, cod liver oil, and probiotic powder.
She has been on this diet for about 3 months, with many positve, noticable results.
Wow! As I am typing this post, I`ve let her outside and she had a bowel movement , mucus and fresh blood. Not alot of either but concerning to me none the less.
PPS
I have got to get a new veteranarian, because I think he see Mercedes as a cash cow.
(could be my imagination)
eg: She had a itchy rash under her chin and he prescribed an antbiotic for $300 Canadian .
The antibiotic made her sick, so after the fourth day, stopped the antibiotic and I applied polysporin ointment to her chin.
Long story short, it cleared up nicely and cost only $8. You would think a vet would suggest trying something like polysporin through his experience with his canine patients over the years.
Any way i`m off on a rant. The vet is a good man, but should be more broadminded when it comes to treatment of common ailments. He sells only one brand of dog food, and going through 3 different formulas of the same brand and educating ourselves about ingredients (none of the ingredients I would feed my worst enemy) decided to make our own dog food. The food he prescribed made her sick which required medication. The food we settled on cleared up most of her issues. But today she is sick, yet she is active. S
So, thanking you and this wonderful website in advance any feedback would be apreciated
