Well, this is actually my first time posting and it is to tell you that I just lost my baby girl Sugar, she strangled herself in her crate while trying to get out. I feel so bad because we accidently left her collar on her, she has never tried to get out to that magnitude before. I have had Sugar for 2 years and rescued her from a couple who were getting rid of her. My baby was my first Boxer and brought much joy into my life..I am heartbroken. The worst part and the lesson I would like to pass on to all new Boxer owners is please use safety measures when crating your babies, remove collars of any type when they are crated because some boxers have severe seperation anxiety and will do anything they can to be with you. Please pray for me because I feel awful and responsible for her death and I do not know where to go from here.

Sorry about your loss. What type (brand & model) of crate was it? I think there has been some previous posts in the forums regarding crate problems with a particular brand.

Its always a good idea to remove collars when the dogs are crated.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Please don't be too hard on yourself. You sound like you really loved Sugar and I am sure she knew that. Maybe the good to come of this will be through someone learning through your post here about the danger.

My sincere sympathies.

May you find peace in the precious memories of your beloved dog to overcome the pain within your heart.

My heart goes out to you. Please try not to dwell on this guilt, but on the fact that you rescued this baby and gave her two years of wonderful life that she might not have had without you. I will keep you in my prayers. Also, did the liturature that cam with the crate mention not keeping the collar on the dog. I don't crate mine during the day, but I would have NEVER thought about this. You may want to write some letters?

I am so very sorry for your loss and at the same time I am sick to my stomach regarding your ordeal.
I had my 9 month old crated and a few months ago I had just bought him a new id tag. I had come home and went to let him out and noticed his id tag was in the bottom of the crate under the grate. I was so scared because all I could figure was that he had been laying down and tried to get up and the id tag must have gotten caught in the grate and he must have kept on pulling until he got loose.
I am imagining now what could have happen.

My prayers are with you during this very difficult time.

Thank you all sooooo much for your kind words and prayers for me and Sugar. I am doing a little better today, I just keep looking for her to run up to me and kidney bean until I give her some love:) I hope and pray that I may someday be able to give and recieve that kind of love from a dog.
Someone asked me what type of cage it was and I am not sure of the brand but It was the wire kind that opened on th etop and the front. Sugar opned the top and when she tried to get out she got her collar stuck on the latch and apparently panicked. This is the hardest part to deal with. I trying to accept this accident and know that she is still running around this house in spirit.
I will post some pics of miss Sugar soon, thanks again!
