Last month my 8 year old Mia suddenly wasn't "right." I found her laying on the bathroom floor one morning heaving difficulty breathing and was very restless. Very unlike her as any Boxer owner knows, she's usually the first one awake, toy in mouth and ready to start the day. I took her to an Emergency vet hospital (Sunday) and I was immediately told she has a heart tumor. The sac around her heart was filled with blood and if they didn't drain it, she would die. I said, "DRAIN IT!! of course. When she was ready to be discharged I was told she spend quality time with her, pay the bill, see you later pretty much. I wasn't okay with that at all!
I have since taken her to a holistic vet, who was wonderful and she is on a homemade diet (I cant even begin to talk about what is in dog food!) and things were okay for a bit. I know my girl is going to die, I know our time is limited. My major concern is her comfort and happiness and of course pain. She hasn't had any pain thus far and I must be honest, that will be my breaking point to make some serious decisions.
Some days my girl is so weak I have to spoon feed her and she goes in the house because she is too weak to go outside. Then POOF next day playing around like nothing is wrong. That's how its been a whole week she's normal and then BOOM a bad day. So bad Im waiting for the last breath.
So sorry this is such a long post. Its also my first.. I am just seeing if anyone else experiences this frustration? and do you have any tactics to calm a restless Boxer?
