Hi all!

Simone is a 10 week old female she weighs approx. 6 pounds. She had a really horrible case of coccidia (and is now free of that) for about 2 weeks time. She has been eating four times a day (Canidae kibbles-softened) and loves her food.

You can see her ribs, and she doesn't have that "puppy fat" that most puppies we've seen have. We are concerned about her growth and whether or not she is getting enough as she is growing.

Should we be concerned with where she is at weight wise for her age? Would supplementing her diet with something more be advisable?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Cheers!

What does your vet say? Yogi was 8wks when we brought him home and he weighed about 13lbs. He is now 9mths and is about 55lbs. He gained weight so fast when he was a pup.
Did you think of trying adding wet food? Merrick is a huge favorite also instead of adding canned dog food. I buy lean ground beef and brown it up and add that too his Candiae also. He usually finishes everybowl. You can give cottage cheese, eggs twice a week (raw), teaspoon of yogurt in the morning.

You will be suprised how they grow. But every dog is different.

GOod luck

terrip, thank you for the reply. Our vet in general hasn't been too concerned one way or another. She does have an appointment on Thursday and we will certainly bring up our concerns again. I think that we will supplement with the foods you suggested. Simone loves her Canidae and we leave it out for about 20-30 minutes each feeding because she will start really eating it and then she'll kind of walk away for a couple of minutes then come back to it.

Do you feel that supplementing leads to a finicky eater?

Thank you again for your advice!

No not at all. Yogi honestly loves his ground beef and Candiae kibble. Candiae is the only kibble he will eat. I have tried CS and Wellness--no luck. So we are sticking w/what he loves. I do alternate between ground chicken and turkey sometimes. But the beef is def a favorite of his.

Think of it this way. Could you eat the same thing everyday forever? I think they love it. Keeps them guessing what is in their bowl. When I put his down he runs to it. He also loves apples as a treat. Peeled and cut up into pieces. He loves peanut butter and cheese also. Great treats to train with.
The cheese helped us teach him to sit and shake and lay down also.

Look forward to hearing how you do.

terrip: we tried the yogurt in her kibble this morning and she was all over it. We will continue to try other foods as well because YES-eating the same thing over and over gets to be quite bland! :) Thanks again for the advice; I'm sure Simone will be very pleased with all the surprises.

Cheers to you!

I am just making sure I said plain yogurt. Its good for them and keeps the gas away.
I am glad she enjoyed it. She is going to love the different tastes and you will see her run when she sees her bowl in your hands. Yogi does...he gallops over to see what goodies are in there. So cute.
