Gentle coaxing
My little girl is also five months old. We live in an apt building (third floor walkup, with marble stairs!) So I was very aware of training my GiGi to go up and down from the time she was able to go outside, around 4 mo. Like others have posted, going up was very easy. But when it came to going down, I would gently take her two front legs and place them on the step directly below her, followed by her two hind legs. Once she saw that her depth perception was right on, and that she was on solid ground, she started to step down on her own, and was like an old pro after about 1/2 hour! Hope this works for you too
