He still wont go down! He nearly did the other day though - just got to keep persisting I think and hope it doesn't take much longer!

Hang in there!

Sarah-

Yeah, they sure do get heavy, don't they?!? Even though Kali will go down the stairs herself, I was still carrying her until recently because Shiva tramples anything in his path going down the stairs!

You're right, just keep working on it and I'm sure Bailey will get it soon!

Hang in there, your pooch will eventually be trotting down them in no time. At least he is not jumping off like our Thumper used to do ~ Cathy

too young?

I didn't realize that puppies weren't supposed to go down stairs. My puppy is 10 weeks old and has been going up and down since we got him two weeks ago. He practically runs down now. Should I try to keep him from going down?

With our foster dogs, the little girl didn't like to go down the stairs although she was happy to go up.

Finally I realised that she was just insecure and I put her on the leash, stood by the stairs and she just started down them herself. She obviously felt safer on the leash, but after that she was up and down them every day. I guess a puppy is a different kettle of fish though...?

Utah had that problem to.Heres what i did....I sat at the top of the stairs(on my bottom)go down one step at a time, calling him everytime you go down one step.only go down a few steps at a time in the beginning.Take a treat or treats with you.Worth a try.I know it sounds silly but it worked for me.Takes several tries..Good luck and keep us posted.

Brilliant!

Our stairs aren't carpeted at home, but I took him round my mum's house yesterday - he flew down the stairs! Didn't even think about it, just ran!

Just got to work out how to get him down our stairs at home now..... atleast we know he'll do it now though!

won't go down the stairs

hey not hard to do. had the same problem with every dog i ever had ....solution? hunger.... lol.. your friend will get hungry enough to come down on his own... keep the bowl of food and water at the bottom of the stairs, he will come down, trust me, he will. and whenever he goes back up, repeat it till he is comfortable with going up and down the stairs ... won't take long....seems a little cruel to tease but it won't hurt him/her none ...cool?
good luck,
SKORP
