So i call my gf during a quick break at work to check on whiskey. She tells me that he is doing great and hasn't potty inside the house. I call my gf on the way home and she tells me that he was crying so she rushed and took him straight outside and he went potty. Yayyyy!! I was super excited. So i get home and he is still doing great. Butttt!!!!!! Somewhere between my ten min drive home and getting some stuff out of the truck he peed inside his crate. It was maybe 15-20 min tops between my last call and getting the groceries out of truck before i took him out again and thats when i noticed it. It was a real bummer. However i kept taking him out during the evening and he will go sometimes and sometimes he wouldn't but i didn't want to take any more chances. He is dead asleep and i'm hoping he won't go ahead and potty inside the crate. What else can i do to prevent this, i don't give him any more water after 6:30p.m. Any advice will be welcomed and appreciated. Please understand i'm knew at this!

How old is your puppy? Very young puppies can sometimes no longer hold it than 30 or 45 minutes. Just keep on doing what you are doing, take your puppy out a lot and always reward him when he relieves himself outside.

Personally I think taking the water away at 6.30 is a little early. What time in the morning do you feed Whiskey and give him water? I would probably leave the water out a little longer. You should also set your alarm clock and take him outside a few times in the middle of the night.

Whiskey is 8 weeks old, i take him out 2 more times during the night, and feed him and give him water again at 6:00 a.m. This morning, his crate was dry and he went straight out and pottied outside.

You also need to make sure that your crate is not too big. They should only have enough room to stand up, turn around, and lie down. You don't want them to have enough room that they can lie down in one end and potty in the other. Also make sure that you clean the crate well, because is they can still smell the urine it will encourage them to pee there again. :(

Good luck!

The crate is small, it's actually for puppies. As fas as cleaning the crate goes, we make sure we clean it out every day before putting him to bed at night... Thanks for the advice!!!

#1 do not let the dog out if is crying...He'll find that is the way to get out...Even if he has to go wait for the dog to settle down even for 5 seconds...

#2 Baxter had 1 poop in the crate and 3 pees. The poop happened on the 2nd day and i left for like 20min...He ended up in there probaly 10min with the accident...It never happened again...2 Pees happened early on...1 time when I had to run out grocery shopping he was in there like an hour...Another time I got a shower and he was in there 15min...The last time was at 10 weeks when i woke up to take him out...I went to open the door and it was too late...Hasnt happened again...

Each pup will be a little different. Layla was real predictable. At that age, we would immediately take her out when leaving the crate, immediately after eating, and every 30 minutes when outside the crate. I think we have had a total 4 accidents early on, all our fault. She picked up bell training in perhaps 30 minutes.

Jack is another story, same pattern except he needed to go out every 15 minutes at that age. Even then, we had to always keep an eye on him, which was somewhat stressful. However, we really didn't want reinforce him having accidents inside. Now at five months we can trust him a little more, but it isn't rock solid. Most times he will go to the door and sit when it is time, and occasionally ring the bell. However, he can get too involved with playing and forget until it is too late. So we will take him out every hour, whether he asks or not.

BTW, when coming home, your pup probably got too excited to see you. I would suggest taking him out before doing anything else.
