Use the search feature here for "housebreaking" and you should find lots of good advice. Seven and a half weeks old is just a baby.... don't expect him to know what to do for some time. And it might help if you put the crate near your bed so you could reach out and comfort the poor little thing when he cries during the night. A nice hot water bottle, wrapped in a snuggly soft towel will help provide something cozy for the puppy to curl up against and I always recommend the time-tried "old-fashioned" wind-up ticking alarm clock to provide a comforting noise for the puppy during those first scary nights away from his littermates.

PS: Most reputable breeders won't even let a puppy go from its mother until it is eight weeks old.

Are you feeding him on a regular schedule???? It is real important ( and a big PITB) to keep puppies on a constant schedule. By doing this you will learn their "elimination" body schedule and be best able to feed on a schedule that fits your schedule. Example: We have a new pup, I make sure to feed her her breakfast at least one hour before I have to leave for work. This way, her food gets processed and she has to do #2 before I leave. I also will not let her come in the house until she does it ( as I KNOW she has to) Same thing with her dinner..... I have found that she needs to do #2 four times a day. By observing this I know not to put her in her crate until she has done it. ( My older boxer always goes #2 twice in the morning, so when he was younger he was not alowed to come in uless he did his two separtate goings) This takes alot of time and supervision but it has worked for me! ( Aspen is now 8 wks old, we've had her since 6 wks, she has never messed in her crate and we have very few house "accidents" Hope this helps and Good Luck

When your pup cries you need to reply with a firm "UH UHH." They understand a growly voice, that is how mother disciplines them when they are bad. When the pup stops whinning, praise him! Don't say, "Oh it's ok poor little puppy" when he whines. This will only make him feel as if sopmething is really wrong!

It has worked wonders for me and my girl loves her crate!

Also make sure you use plenty of treats and make that crate a happy place each time he goes in there! Don't just put him in there and shut the door! Throw yummy treats in there and use a happy voice. Then when he gets the idea that the crate is good, you can shut the door. Use lots of praise when he's good, and UH UHH when he whines.

If I were just 7,5 weeks old and put in a crate, away from my mom and brothers and sisters, I would cry constantly too.

Try to put a clock wrapped by one of your shirts when crated. That seems to work with most of the puppies. And as I remember, Krose used to poop everywhere the first week we got him and he was 3,5 months old;)

Yes, I would cry if I was alone in a crate, at that age, too. Make sure your crating him in the same room with you, especially at night. :)

Also, don't use any type of potty training pads...confuses the pup. Just take him out frequently for potty breaks!
