I have had my pup for almost a week and he is only 7 week's old today... He is almost housebroken, He has the ocassional accident, but so far so good!

My predicament is this, we just got some really rainy weather and it hasn't let up and doesn't look like it will anytime soon.... Dozer decided he was too good to do his "duty" in the rain... So I have been standing in the rain waiting for him to go and I know that he has too go! But he is still little and I don't want him to get sick so after about 5 minutes Of him sitting there staring at me like ( Me...??? Go...??? In the rain??? You must be crazy!!!) I bring him back in the house and put him in his crate, Then in 15 minutes I take him out again and we start all over!

Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone else have this problem? HELP!!

Oh that is what I went through with Lucy, when we got here it was cold and rainy she wanted no parts of it. I would stand out there forever and she would sit under the overhang and stay dry, then she would eventually just pee on my walkway. It should get better, he is still really young. :)

WHen we got Sketch, it was like negative 30 something in WI. WHenever we would take him out to do his "doodie" (giggles), he would give us that same look. He also does it in the rain sometimes, but now that he is a bit older, he is not having so many problems anymore.

LOL I can just picture it :D Actually, most dogs don't like to go out to pee in the rain - they just learn that peeing has to be done outdoors and if its raining then they are going to get wet. Even as adults, most dogs will 'hang on' as long as possible when its raining before, finally, they have to go ;) So don't worry, you're not doing anything wrong. Your little 7 week old puppy is just doing what comes naturally - its cold and raining and what's on his little mind is getting back in where it's dry, not on going potty (very sensible actually LOL). He just hasn't learnt yet that peeing takes place outdoors even when its raining ;)

So you just need to keep doing exactly what you're doing. Take him out whenever you think he needs to go, and if he doesn't 'perform', then you take him out again fifteen or thirty minutes later, until he finally does his thing (keeping a close eye on him for accidents in the meantime). He'll catch on eventually - and when he does, he'll probably potty extra-quick so he can get back indoors where its dry.

You might find it's easier to pursuade him to potty if you can protect him from the rain - an overhang or even an umbrella could help ;)

Bad weather was the major setback for Willis's potty training too. It was really nice when we got him and then we had a freak snowstorm... then it was nice, then another snowstorm... this cycle repeated itself a few time and by the fourth or so storm, Willis just went outside. But in the meatime, snow days meant we would find "surprises" on the carpet.... Kris told me one day of finding Willis in the position for "doodie" (that was funny rentsosketch) and picked him up to throw him outside only to find that the act was already occuring and Willis took a big "sky dump". Ahhh... those were the days....

Geez...Beasley is gonna be 2 in October and he's still a weenie when it comes to peein' in the rain. I have to get out the golf umbrella (it's big enough to cover both of us) if I want him to do real 'biz' but sometimes he's stand at the top of the driveway under the garage overhang and just pee out into the driveway. He must be afraid that he'll melt or something.

LMAO! Evie & Adam hate the rain too. They do like the snow tho. They run around like crazed gazelles first! Way Funny.

Even funnier, a couple of days ago, they were outside for business and right in the middle the sprinklers came on!! I was laughing so hard! They were stuck. Then, once they were done, the pups wouldnt run through the sprinklers to the to the porch. They were dodging the sprays of water but couldnt get far enough :) After about a minute, i was able to coax them to the porch.

Poor babies and momma just laughed!

Great stories I feel better knowing we aren't the only ones! My old dog Kayla just didn't care one way or the other. 50 below and she was raring to go! She would stay out and come back in soaking wet and happy as a clam! Muddy as all get out too!!! we had to keep towel's by the back door!

I had to get one of those too! :D katie will hold it quite a long time if i dont use an umbrella, One time it was pouring horribly, we got to the garage/outside point, katie looked out, looked at me, looked out again, looked back at me, then did an about face and went back inside  it was almost like the second time she looked at me she said " You want me to go out in THAT? i dont think so, i can hold it!" it just cracked me up.

Good Luck

Metal and Magnolia hate the rain too! Even if there is morning dew on the grass they don't want to step on it! It's hilarious! Good luck
