We have had Wrigley home for about a week and a half :D I work from the office in the moning and then do the rest of work at home in the afternoon, so he is only in his crate for a few short hours in the morning. The only thing is that when my wife and I are getting ready in the morning he is out of the crate and walking around and everythig, but he cries the whole time, even when playing. I am guessing that he knows our routine now and if we are home he doesn't mind the crate at all it is only when we get ready for work in the morning. Will he get used to it? Other than that he is an Angel, he already will sit at the top of the stairs and make noise (bark or cry) when he needs to go out, and he tried to chew a table once and a couch once, but we were right there and very gently took his mouth off of them and put a toy in, and he hasn't even tried it after that. It just breaks your heart to put him in the cage in the morning, the only time that he really seems to mind it at all. When we are home and we he wanders out of the room that I (or we) am in we find him sniffing or lying in his crate. If we go out to run to the store or something later on he would rather not go in the crate, but he doesn't resist going in like he does in the morning. I guess I just don't know why he does it only one time during the day.

Completely Boxer Crazy
Don't worry, Wrigley's still very young so it's normal for him to cry and not like his crate. Actually,for his age he's doing VERY well with his crate training. A lot better than my Boz did at that age. The fact that he goes into the crate when you're home is excellent and I'm sure your baby will be crate trained in no time at all. He sounds like such a sweet boy. Good luck! :D
DOESN'T LIKE CRATE EITHER
BAXTER IS ALMOST 5 MONTHS AND IS ONLY CRATED WHEN WE ARE NOT HOME TO SUPERVISE. HE STILL IS NOT LIKING IT WELL, (PUPPY DROOL, AND VERY SAD) I CAN'T SEE A SOLUTION, WE ARE NOT GONE LONG PERIODS (4 HOURS IS A MAX!) I WORK NIGHTS SO HE DOESN'T HAVE TO BE CRATED DAILY. HE JUST CRAWLS IN BED WITH ME AND SLEEPS AND PLAYS. I TRIED CRATING FOR SHORT PERIODS WHEN WE ARE HOME SO HE WOULDN'T ASSOCIATE THE CRATE WITH US BEING GONE, STILL HAD A MISERABLE PUP! IF ANYONE HAS IDEAS, I'LL TAKE THEM

If you follow it exactly, I think Wrigley will adjust and then learn to love his crate. As tanya has stated, Wrigley is still very young, but I agree with her, if he is going in it when you are at home at his own free will, then you are close to success. Obviously he likes the crate, it is more the fact of being left that is making him cry. I too would consider using a Kong, just to occupy him for that first while after you leave. There are some good suggestions on the kong and how to stuff them with goodies at this link

Tia used to HATE her kennel. Now when she realizes I am off to work, she runs right to it. Of course she knows I'm giving her a treat. :p I bet yours will come around as well. I thought it would always be a struggle for Tia and her kennel, but she's fine now. Good luck.

Same problems we had with Ozzy but he was only about 3 months old and he learned real quick when we say Kennel to go downstairs and get in his kennel and then he gets his treat. Keep working on it, it just takes time. 
I feel your pain and although I should have many techinques for crate training (because I feel like we tried them all) I don't. We tried lots of different things to get Megan use to her crate and she never did. My vet finally said to me some dogs just can't be crate trained, I guess Megan was one of them. I think patients is the best thing and you sound like you are doing everything right to me.

I'm with malinda. I tried for 2 years to crate train Dempsey with minimal success. He just didn't like it. Marcey on the other hand loves the crate. Truthfully, the effort involved in crate training her was unbelievably easy. She took to it not just from day one, but from minute one. At 8 weeks old she knew this was her place and that she would always be safe and comfortable there.
