he ate his bed again

this is now the third crate pad he has eaten through. I don't want him to have to sit on the hard plastic all day, not to mention when he does he manages to push it out of the crate and is left on the wires on the carpet, but I am just not sure what else to do.

It has been like 5 months since he last ate a bed, so I don't know what up. Is he just bored? Anything I can leave in his crate with him during the day to chew on that is safe?

I finally had to give up on letting Cash have any bed/blanket in his crate for the same reason. To remedy him pushing the crate pan out, we had to use tie wraps. Works like a charm!
As for good crate toys, I usually fill a Kong with treats (sometimes freeze plain yogurt and peanut butter mixed with treats), and leave him a couple of other toys like nylabones. No plush toys though, .

I think my first post here was about Zeke destroying several beds - ripping them apart AND eating the stuffing. And he was weird, too - he would go months in between tearing up beds and then go through two in three days. What has worked for us is Kongs. I know they were mentioned above but I just had to second it. We also got him a new crate bed at Target that is chew resistant - it was only $20 so we figured it was worth a try. The bed has lasted and he (well, both of them) gets a Kong before we leave. We've put rice, leftover peas/beans, macaroni & cheese, mashed potatoes, sensitive stomach canned food, a little dry cat food - really anything in there thrills them to death. Keeps them busy for a while and then it's nap time, I think.

Sugar has done the same thing, and the last bed she chewed up I don't understand how it happened. It was a fancy/comfortable bed and it was in a zip up cover, When we got home it looked like she just didn't like her surroundings and decided to decorate. When I started cleaning it up, i noticed that the cover to the bed wasn't destroyed at all. She had somehow unzipped the cover and got to the insides.
I normally put either a bone or kong with peanut butter in her cage and she is fine until we get home. This was one time i forgot to put something in there.

We're having the same problem!

Moxie is now 8 months and chewing EVERY bed that we leave her with in the crate. At first, we had her just on towels (because she was also peeing the crate until recently; thank goodness that has subsided!), and she never chewed them. Then, one day, we came home and she had ripped one side off the towel. The next day, another entire towel was destroyed.
We tried a softer type of crate liner that would be harder to chew, but she chewed it and pulled all the stuffing out. The same with the nice bed she sleeps on at night, which we tried today in the crate when we left her.
I do use Kongs with treats and frozen peanut butter, flavored nylabones and lots of other chew bones and treats. But she must go through those too quickly.
This only just started after months of no destruction, so I'm wondering if it's an age/teething thing.
In any case, I appreciate all the advice below as well.

We don't leave anything in the crate with Jayda when we leave the house. I just have the fear of her choking on something...

You said the tray slides out of the crate. The locking latch is broken? (The metal bar that holds the tray in the crate. Don't know what it is called...)

Please do not leave anything in there that is chewable then. My boy literally ATE his blanket in his crate. An 8 inch scar down his stomach, 4 weeks of recovery time, and $2,500 later he is fine, but let me tell you it was touch and go for a few days that's for sure. He ended up with blanket in his intestines and stomach and had to have both repaired. The surgery was 3 hours (you can aputate a dog's limb faster than that!) he was on 3 antibiotics for 2 weeks an ulcer medication to help heal his stomach, a mush food diet for 2 weeks, Sub Q fluids for a few days, it was dreadful. So PLEASE take it from someone who has been there done that if you know he's "eating" shredding or doing anything else with bedding TAKE IT OUT before you have to learn the hard way! I didn't know mine was doing it until it was too late.

Onto a solution, look at Kuranda beds. They are chewproof. We've had ours now for 4 months now and it looks brand new and he hasn't even tried to chew it because he can't. Now if your dog is a digger they could dig at the material and cause an issue, but if they're just a chewer they truly are chewproof. They make ones specifically for crates as well. I have the 42 inch crate and for one that size it ran me around $75 and that included shipping, but as I said it's very well made and 4 months later still looks brand new. YOu can find them online with a simple search.

We have tried the kongs, but they literally eat the peanut butter out of them in like 2 hours. I guess I can leave them in there even without peanut butter some days. I just feel like they will gain a ton of weight if we leave them with peanut butter every day.

He needs more exercise. Boxers need a LOT of it. Try it and I bet he will stop.
