I just cant believe how ignorant people are!!!!! In one weekend I got two shots from people that obviously don't know boxers. I had two friends ask me this weekend what kind of dog I was getting....my reply of course is a boxer, best kind of dog in the world....so one guys says to me...why would you want a vicious dog like that when you have kids? they are fighting dogs blah blah blah...he apparantly knew a guy that had boxers and they were so mean to his kids that he quit bringing them over there, blah blah blah...
and then the next day this woman says to me that her neighbors boxers' "charged" at her kids and tried to bite them!!! (I'm thinking a boxer doesnt have to "try", he'll either do it or he won't)
To both of these people I simply responded that yes, there are ignorant people everywhere.....(they didnt realize I was talking about them!...:D ) but honestly, i have to admit my feelings were hurt. I dont even have my baby yet and I have to defend him already!!! I'm praying that this is not an indication of things to come and that are regular people out there that aren't so prejudiced against something they know nothing about.

Thanks for the vent.

Goofy.

Yeah, that's a pretty sad welcome to boxer world. Unfortunately, that is something you will always have to deal with to some extent - along with the more "positive" comments like "What a pretty dog, are you going to breed her/him?" Just kills me. But, it also gives you an opportunity to do some educating and hopefully help out the breed. You'll have your 30 second "boxers are great non-violent kid dogs" and "breeding is for breeders" lectures down pat in no time! ;)

Okay KC........................................did you hit it on the nose or what.

I have only had my fawn brindle male for 6 weeks and at least 4 diff. occassions I had to defend and explain his breed.

Is that a pit bull?? I get often. And my reply is......No he is a boxer. A totally different bloodline than that of a pitbul. This one guy than goes on to tell me , BUT boxers are of the terrier family and therefore he is still a pit bull. I said Sir you are mistaken. A boxer is not of the Terrier Family is in now a viscous dog by fact, ehistroy or sterotype. I suggested that he look it up if necessary. I went on to tell this man who sees me with my 6 and4 year old daughter and son and say.........................I would only bring the best type dog into my home with my kids.

My convos' primarily stop right before the whole terrier thing, but I find myself explaining often.

Than there are those "educated enough" people that will simply ask and take my word or wonder outloud why they never saw a striped Boxer before. smashicon

Mostly I come across people that are proud to see a healthy beauty boxer and say 9/10 times that they grew up with one and they are wonderful.

Hi there

It's sad, I know from experience, you will always get someone who knows of someone who has....blah..blah..blah...been attacked...bitten or worst by one of these viscious breeds. However, take no notice, on the positive side I can assure you that once you get your boxer....the compliements will far outweigh any negative comments.

You will join the rest of us who can hardly walk down the street without someone stoppping to coo over your baby. I live in a little villiage and I daren't go to my local shop without taking Monty.....the staff have to come outside to have their faces washed each day....It's the same with our library.....although this time he comes in too as it's non food...they all make a fuss of him while I choose books in peace:D

Good luck and all the best.....can't wait to see pics of him.

Please don't let the ignorant remarks of other people in any way rain on your parade-- getting a boxer puppy is an exciting and wonderful event and I'm sorry that your joy has somewhat been dampened. Please keep us posted on the arrival of your new puppy!

I don't get so mad or insulted with people who don't know the breed and are trying to learn or understand the boxer by asking questions that might not sound to smart. The ones that I get mad and really insulted are with the people who think they are just every breeds expert. Ones that actually don't ask questions but makes a statement about the Boxer that is so untrue.

I don't know about every breed out there and therefore I don't get so frustrated with people that approaches me to ask questions about our dogs, even if it is "Is that a pitbull?". But just want to beat the living crap out of people when they approach us and say stupid things like "Oh, it had to be boxer!" or "You stay away from that boxer" or "I don't like my dogs to play with boxers because they are too aggressive", especially when we are at a dog park.

This is a fun thread. :D I live in a pretty pitbull intensive area as some of you may know. We get comments all the time. It's easy to get offended at others lack of good sense or knowledge, but also remember that the better you can intelligently field questions about this wonderful breed, the more that people are willing to actually listen to what you have to say about them. For example, a neighbor of mine once stopped me in the street to ask about Gypsy and we ended up speaking for about 45 minutes. They now have 2 boxer puppies instead of the pitbulls that they were considering because they saw how well Gypsy does with our children. When a 5 year old kid can walk a 60lb dog, it's a pretty good sign that the dog is well behaved and good with small children.
Keep up the good fight and good luck with your new one.

Hmm...never had any real mean remarks...tons of ignorant remarks but nothing real mean....the most common (Not mean at all) is "how old is your pit?" I love pit bulls so i don't mind it just irritates me when they just ASSUME! I mean atleast state it in a question form......I mean, who do they think they are??? Captain Dog Pro??? jeezzz

But i KNOW you will get tons of POSITIVE remarks more so then negative from people...i have found that many people LOVE Boxers!! How can you NOT?? Look at their squishy faces they beg to be squeezed and smothered in kisses!

LOL I will say one of the best comments I've had so far when I say I'm getting a boxer - "oh a boxer? I wonder what kind of pups he would make with my bichon/shih tsu(sp?) cross.....?
I just gave her the blank 'duh....I'm not a breeder' look and said well....it's likely my 75 pound boxer will EAT your dog...puppies and all.
