Winston&Brew

Boxer Booster
We have been taking Winston on walks every night since the weather has been so nice. We just moved into our new house back in November, so the weather wasn't very walking-friendly then so Winston didn't go on nearly as many walks as he is now....anyways.....My boyfriend and I take Winston down to a lake that is prety close to us, it's a popular palce to go and walk dogs and to just enjoy the nice weather. We have noticed that people see Winston coming and kind give him a glare and then us a 'look'. They also will grab their children and dogs a bit closer. It looks as if they are really scared of him. Winston is a boxer/hound mix, many think he his a pit bull though. And it breaks my heart to see everyone so mean towards him (almost in tears as I'm writing this) We let them know that he is a very friendly dog and wouldn't hurt anyone and that he is pretty much a big baby, they don't seem to want to listen to us. Then as they walk Winston looks up as us with his "what did I do eyes" and it really mades me upset. Lastnight I was really upset and called one of my friends and she told me that next time I take Winston down there she is gonig to bring her Rotty and then she how they react....that made me laugh a lil' but the people there really bug me. When Brew gets big enough to go on walks, I really don't want people treating him like that either! Has this happend to any of you?????????????

I live out in the country so we walk out here, but when I take them around people I haven't thankfully run into any prejudices. Most say how beautiful they are. Of course Boone has to act like an idiot and forget all his training....but that's another topic.
Make up a t-shirt saying DON'T BE AFRAID...I'LL ONLY LICK YOU TO DEATH!
Good Luck....don't let those snotty people offend you, you know the truth and it's their loss.
Where in IA are you? I live north of Waterloo.

Hey-if these people are that judgemental on looks alone, you probably don't want to socialize with them anyway......how's that for ME being non-judgemental?LOL!

I am sorry that happened to you. I have had a few similar circumstances.
Unfortunately I think alot of people here have probably had a story like yours.
It makes me wonder if your dog was a poodle or a similar type would those people have the same reaction?
If they don't want to listen to you & try to see that Winston is a nice, sweet dog then they are missing out.

I have had this problem also!

I have had this problem also occasionally, not so much with Layla my boxer that just passed on 04/08/06 as with my American Bull girl Roxy. I did however run into a problem with someone who had boxers, because Layla was a white boxer baby and the guy had the nerve to say to me that he basically believed that the whites should be put to sleep as soon as they are born so as they don't contaminate the lines any further. And he wouldn't even let his Boxers around my baby girl that kind of hurt my feelings. Good luck with that people are so judgemental sometimes before they even take the time to meet the babies.

Similar experience

I posted a similar story a couple weeks ago. While walking with little Kobe (9 weeks at the time), a neighbor a couple houses down hurried her kids inside their garage and closed the door... I heard her yelling at her kids to hury up and get out of the pit bull's way. Being ignorant about what breed Kobe was, made me a little mad, but what really got me was that how could anyone be afraid of a 9 week old puppy of any breed???

I do not have this problem with my boxers but I have expierenced this problem with my Rotty. Ignorance is a sad thing.

We all understand. And most have experienced it. We have to keep reminding ourselves that it is THEIR ignorance not ours.

What ticks me off is their reactions to our babies "look" sometimes gets a reaction from our boxers. And then they have the nerve to say something about our dogs character.

All I have to say is they are small minded people because all the Boxers I know wouldn't hurt a fly.
I would get a t-shirt that say's Looks can be decieving on the front and on the back Don't judge a book by it's cover.
Just my view.
