Rage is my three year old boxer. About two months ago we noticed she would stop in her place, welp, and hold her head up. Her behavior changed somewhat, and we took her to the vet. They were unsure of the problem and monitored her for a while. She was put on cortizone to reduce swelling in the brain and another medicine for seizures. We wiened her off after 3 weeks like we were told. Two weeks ago, she started again, only this time she has a side head tilt, she has very bad balance and runs in to things. The doctors are at odds on the diagnosis. They range from, Brain tumor, to seizures, to a virus that infected her brain, and a new analysis by LSU doctors is possible severe inner ear problems. She is down to 38 pounds, (usually averages 48 pounds cause she is the runt) but she has finally gotten her appetite back, but we are told its do to steriods. Has anyone had this happen before? I have two boxers and the othe one is unaffected by this. We have been told putting her down will probbably be necessary but each vet is trying to save her.

We took her home because she has to much medication in her, the test could turn out wrong. We ar taking her back next week to run more tests. In the means time, she's cleaning my walls while she walks!

aaaaaaaaawww...

Terrible! I am sorry to hear this:( I do hope she is ok soon and that the docs at LSU figure out what is wrong with her.
I wish good things for you all:)

**update**

Well my wife (k&KM) & and I had to put Rage down last week after a 4 month bout with a brain inflamation. She had lost almost 30% of her original body weight and was no longer eating. We kept her on medicine for as long as we could with decent results but she finally stopped responding.

Anyway, she will be sorely missed as she was one of our children.

That is awful, three years old is way to young. When I read your first post about the walking with a tilt I thought about Cody. He started doing that and found something on his spinal cord which eventually started affecting his brain and having seziures. I didn't realize this post was a couple months olds until I saw your update.

The only benefit out of the loss of Rage and Cody is that they are no longer in pain and they are running together now. I couldn't stand seeing Cody the way he was, it wasn't him.

Again, I am so sorry for your families loss. It is so hard.

Sarah,

They found the same thing on Rage's spinal cord at the base of her neck. We gave her steroids for awhile which she seemed to respond to but in the end she couldn't fight it anymore. I am sorry to hear abot Cody as well. Such a sad thing to happed to such sweet animals. Like you said though they are in Heaven havin fun!

Yep, Cody's was also on the base of his neck. Since Cody was 11 we decided not to further investigate, the vets figured it was cancer of some sort since they could see it. The vet gave him some sort of medication to see if it would help but it didn't. He got bad soo fast. I think it was a matter of 4 weeks maybe from normal to slipping, to tilting to falling, walking in circles and finally the seziures.

My only comfort is knowing that he is not in pain anymore. Other than that it is still so hard.

How is your other dog doing?

Well she is the "Alpha Female" and is currently soaking up the extra attention but we plan on getting another one as soon as possible. We babysat our friends 10 week old brindle boxer last weekend and Kenzie was really playful. Sometimes I can tell she misses GG butshe has always been kind of solitary towards other dogs.

Did you guys get another one?

Jason- I'm so sorry about your poor girl. I'm also having trouble with my baby, and she's not eating and it's just heartbreaking to see your furkids not themselves. I'm sure her last few months she knew how much she was loved.....poor girl. Saw her pic...she's so innocent, 3 is WAY too young :( She looked full of personality!
And waiting happily..... <<<<Godspeed Rage!!!>>>>
