I'm so glad that i hear your news,you and your family are in my thoughts.
I think Andy is right,it's better to put the stair gate up,and have this close at the time she would stay alone home and when you want her to follow you upstrairs you could wear her a harness and help her by holding firm the harness from the up side.I had used this way just after Avra's surgery(spayed)and when she wanted to go out

Pam it's always great to hear news about Ginty girl. I'm so happy she had a great birthday, but was there ever any doubt?!!
I understand how the stairs can be a very scary thing. My Xena is showing signs of some pain involved in stair climbing, but her sister is far worse and yes, my mother uses Sheba's harness to help her up the stairs. I agree with you. What would these guys think if they were suddenly unable to follow us around?? I know my 2 would not settle for that one bit!
