I am pretty stressed out about the whole thing. She already had a torn ACL in her left knee and tore the right one over christmas. When that happened I decided it was time to get the procedure done. That said, she is having both knees done at the same time now. I know most of the time they don't do it that way, but she is on the small side (50 pounds) so the doctor siad it should be fine. I just feel bad for my little girl. She is gonna be crippled for at least several weeks now.

ANyone else ever have TPLO done on both legs? Heard of anyone doing it? Thanks in advance for the happy thoughts. Cheers,

gabe

I'm sorry to hear that she has to go through this! Let us know how she does after surgery.

My parents' adopted a cocker spaniel who had this procedure done at age 2-ish on one leg and then had to have it done shortly afterwards on the other. Wendy did really well until she got to be about 13 years old, when everything else started going down hill. So, I'd say it was quite a success. I do not know what her rehabilitation after surgery was like, but I do know that it worked.

I hope your baby is home soon!

Sorry that you're going through this. Haven't heard of two at same time but my girl, Charlie, had her left leg done 13months ago, a few months before her 2nd birthday. (80% of times the left leg goes first I'm told). I was totally upset and stressed about it too but we somehow got through it (Bobby was a 3mth puppy at the time so we had to separate them which stressed me and Charlie more). Took about 4-5 months to get her exercise back to pre-op as the slow part is the gradual rehab and building back up of muscle afterwards. We used a sling to help take weight off a bit when walking her to toilet etc in the first few weeks or so afterwards. You'll get there and it's all worth it afterwards when you see them so happy. We now have Charlie on a glucosamine/chondroitin powder to hopefully help her joints/minimise athritis when she's older - it's wonderful, I really see the difference in her for taking it. Good luck, I understand your stress - thinking of you and Haley. If you want any more info about our experience with Charlie's op, let me know.

Don't have any direct experience with it, but our neighbors' old lab had to have this procedure done. For her age, she is doing remarkably well!

She went through PT via aqua.

Best of luck to you....Sampson and I send good healing vibes and sloppy wet kisses (from him)

Thanks everyone. Haven't heard from the Vet yet, so I assume she is still in surgery, but I am sure everything is fine.

Aussie, thanks for the offer. Maybe I'll take you up on that.

I hope your baby is doing well!!! We have Roxy on Restor-A-Flex which is a vitamin form of the glucosamine and chondroitin powder mentioned above. She loves to eat them and thinks they are a treat. She has something going on with her right knee and has been going to an ortho specialist. He is treating her like she has an infection in her joint right now, but we could end up doing TPLO if these antibiotics don't bring about the change the doctor is hoping for. (If she has an injury, he says it's really slight.) I would love to hear how the surgery goes for your baby and how she is doing! Roxy and I send our best wishes on a speedy recovery and you hang in there, too!!
