Hair not growing back

Our boxer (Bailey) had a mct removed, coming up 4 weeks this Tuesday. Most of her back leg was shaved, and the hair hasn't hardly grown back at all; almost not at all.

Vet is thinking it could be a thyroid issue, but Bailey does not have any signs. Vet suggested running a thryroid test (this was a week and a half ago) but we decided to wait till her next check-up, which is Monday.

Bailey was taking a high dose of predisone before the surgery due to the size of the mct, thus we are wondering if maybe this has had an effect, but she hasn't been on pred since.

Any thoughts? She seems to be her normal self, normal appetite, normal drinking.

Thor has always taken what seems forever for his hair to grow back. It takes over 2 months for his hair to grow back. For full disclosure he has been on thyroid meds since his first surgery.

I was wondering the same thing. Cornelius just had his surgery and he looks like Franken-Puppy! I'm wondering if the hair itches when it grows back ... I don't want him bothering the stitches. Do you think it would be OK to put some vitamin E where his bald spot is to soothe the area?

My Dharma had 3 MCTs removed back in October of 2012....still no hair there - nothing has grown back. She however - is an older girl (not sure exactly how old) and has tons of health issues (surprisingly thyroid is not one of them).

I was wondering how long it would take to grow back but since it's been 5 months I'm giving up and assuming it won't.

After surgeries the body is in over-drive trying to heal. Re-growing hair is the last thing on its mind. **For lack of a better description!
The body will focus its energy to the most important things (proper healing).
It isn't uncommon, especially this time of year for dogs to start shedding their winter coats. When you factor this in it isn't out of the ordinary for it to seem like it takes forever for hair removed from a surgery to take many months to start regrowing.
Toss in a thyroid issue and it can even take longer.
Just because sutures are removed doesn't mean the site has healed....only the incision has closed. There is still healing going on under the surface that we can't see.
It would take Cami upward of 6 months to have her hair fully returned after her MCT surgeries and some places where scars had formed never had hair again. She too was on thyroid meds but also had many surgeries prior to that diagnosis/treatment.
