has anyone ever heard of a boxers hair changing texture? My female is 1 year old and fixed- I recently got her from boxer rescue. About 3 months ago- her hair is a little longer than my previous boxer and appears to be falling out along her back and hind quarters but is being replaced by a firmer, courser hair in some places. I don't think its Mange because she's not going bald its just changing- any suggestions? Maybe I should try some shampoo's or conditioner...could it be allergies

Ok, I'm a little confused. It takes a whole year to lose their puppy coat? Tucker's coat has already changed once since we got him, from longish downy-type fur to shorter (more like eyelashes) fur. Will he change coats again??

My older girl is nine and has always had a beautiful coat but she has a bad disc and is on a steriod for the pain. I don't know if that is the reason but she has just gotten the seasonal flank alopecia. We did a skin scraping and it isn't mange. It is driving me crazy. I switched her to Nutro senior recently and now I am wondering if that is causing it. We are clueless. I can brush and brush her and all this hair falls out.

Hair loss

Anytime your boxer loses "hair" that doesn't seem to be growing back, call your vet immediately. My first boxer, Boomer, was diagnosed with a condition called "Cushings Disease." One of the first signs of the disease is hair loss. If the disease is left untreated, the dog may develop serious health conditions.

I'm glad to hear that your boxer's hair is growing back in (even though it's a different texture). With Cushings Disease, the hair doesn't grow back at all. However, I think it's always best to check with your vet if it becomes a constant problem.
Best of Luck to you,
Boxing Boomer
