I noticed this morning that Gus was not acting like his normal self. He is very sleepy and won't play. He is usually bouncing off the walls. I took him and Izzy outside a few times today, and Izzy was boxing him, and he wouldn't play with her. Just went to the chair and sat in it, or sat on the deck. He usually goes flying out the door to do his laps. He ate his breakfast and lunch today like normal. I gave him treats, and he spit them out, but then ate them. He usually inhales treats. He is also drooling, which he never does unless he has just had a drink. He has big drools hanging down and I have to wipe his face. I also noticed his breath smells really bad. I looked in his mouth, and don't notice anything out of the ordinary. I haven't seen him poop today, but I am keeping an eye out. He was outside alone this morning, so he could have pooped, but not sure. He also is holding his little nubby tail down, against his anus. I don't want to be an over-reacting mommy, but should I take him into the ER vet? My vet won't be open till Monday. He is eating, and not throwing up. I did not find any evidence that he ate anything. The only thing I can think of is that he swallowed a kitty toy. We have a new kitten, and she keeps taking her toys all over the house. Any ideas?? I hate when my babies don't feel good. I am trying to find my stethoscope so I can listen for bowel sounds.

I don't have any advice but hoping all is OK with Gus. He's eating well and that's a good sign. You might call the vet and see what they say.

I took Gus to the ER vet at 3am today. He got worse and I couldn't stand seeing him in pain. I let him out to potty, and when he came in, he had big drools coming out of his mouth. When I went to wipe his mouth, he ran from me and hid. I went to look inside his mouth, and he was about to snap at me, and wouldn't let me open his mouth.... he has never, ever done that. I went up to my room, and he is usually first in bed. Instead, he hid between my bed and the wall and was shaking. He wouldn't move. Poor boy. I felt so bad for him that I took him in. I think he was in pain.
So, we get to the ER vet, and they couldn't open his mouth either. So, they wanted to sedate him to be able to look inside his mouth. I asked what they would use to sedate him, and they said ACE!!!! Of course my response was NO WAY!!!! He said he would use something else, so I said, ok, we could do that. They also did a CBC. He also has lost 5 pounds, but that might just be a scale difference. He does look thinner, but he IS eating. Anyway, the CBC came back perfect. Also, he could not find anything in his mouth! I don't know whats going on! Its good he didn't see anything, but not good that I don't know whats going on with my boy. He also said that when he was sedated, they didn't notice the foul odor from his mouth, but they did notice it when they first examined him, and I noticed it at home???? How weird is that? So, he said he could do x-rays to see if they could see anything. I figured the x-rays would be normal, so I opted to take him home to observe him. The vet agreed that that was okay to do. So, 240 dollars later, and still no answers. He gave me pain medication (Tramadol) for him if he still seems in pain. The vet wanted to give me Rimadyl and I said NO WAY!!! Gus is resting now since he is still a little groggy from being sedated. My thought is that maybe something in his mouth is going on, but it's only been 1 day, so nothing showed up on bloodwork yet? Any ideas? I just hope my boy feels better soon. It's so frustrating! I will post an update tomorrow. Hopefully I can get some sleep.... its almost 5:30am!
Please send those great postive healing boxer vibes to Gus! And any ideas of what you think could be going on with him, please throw them out there!
Also, the tech said that Gus was the most well behaved Boxer she has seen!!! LOL! He must be sick! He is usually jumping on people and knocking them over.
