GRRRR my neighbor threatened my dogs

Matt (Marimat): your suggestion is a good one, unfortunantly though we do not know or have anyone that would be willing to watch the house, I have thought about putting the video camera to the front of the house for disturbances and such but then i would look like a dork and i wouldnt be able to find out what my babies do when we are not home (subi peeing on the floor then licking it up to cover the evidence  )
I did talk to the rescue and informed them what was going on, one of the ladies (janet) has had the same prob, she said if he decides to call the SPCA they will walk up to the house, see of the dogs bark and for how long, walk away from the house, see if the dogs bark and for how long, and repeat this again, they will then look in our back yard making sure we are picking up the poo, and then check out our home and the dogs. She doesnt think we have to worry about the SPCA.
The bad thing is that Pat and I are very easy going, we try to get along with everyone, we dont party hearty, no excessively loud music, pretty much we keep to ourselves and then we get a jerk like this guy and it makes us mad and confused because we do not know what we did wrong.
this guy moved in very end of september, i already had Subi, we got bailey the first of january. We NEVER heard a word from this guy about our dogs. WHY NOW?
Is it too hard to come and talk to us,. instead of being a chicken sh#t and leaving a note?
as you can tell i am STILL BITTER.
Thanks so much for letting me vent

p.s. Trudy you are correct: NO XMAS COOKIES FOR HIM, Maybe i will dump a bag of coal on his porch

So why don't you go talk to him instead of venting here...sure you are still bitter, but perhaps he has a good explanation. I have been on BOTH sides of this issue. My neighbor was a psycho b@#ch, my dogs never barked...when I was home...but I didn't doubt her...dogs BARK. Maybe your new one is the one barking if there wasn't a problem before.

So...like I said...I say be the adult and handle it like YOU wanted him to...go to his door and talk to him. Don't be the chicken.

All of these posts that assume the neighbor is the bad guy...sure the dogs were recordered...so they didn't bark, does that mean they never bark?

YOU be the adult and go talk to the guy. I would be ticked too if I lived in a duplex next to barking dogs. So go talk to him and find WHEN the dogs are barking.

BoxerFun: I find your reply very OFFENSIVE.

I have had Subi for 7 MONTHS in MY HOUSE and bailey for 3 MONTHS, i never heard anything from this neighbor till friday, he moved in 3 weeks AFTER we got Subi. My dogs do BARK but only when there is a reason i.e. someone is in front of the house, he had to go in front of the house to put the note in our door so they prob did bark then. I AM an ADULT and i would NEVER have made a threat, not the first time bringing it to someones attention, THAT IS CHILDISH. HE should have come and spoken to us first BEFORE threatening MY DOGS!!!
believe me i plan to talk to him, once i have cooled down.
ALSO, he said EVERY evening when we go out- dont GENERALIZE if it happened ONCE!!! (his note to us is verbatim in my first post on this issue)

Living in a duplex you NEED to understand that you will hear things!!! if a baby cried would he come over and threaten my child?? NO YOU WOULD NOT. if you can not understand that you will hear your neighbors then guess what... DONT MOVE into a townhouse or duplex.

Thank you to everyone else trying to help and understanding my fustration.

I live in a townhouse and have lived in a duplex. I know you are going to hear the neighbors, but barking dogs is something that someone shouldn't have to deal with.

I didn't intend to offend, just seems like a person would want to get to the root of the problem. He probably just finally had enough...........

  I said the same thing above! When I responded telling of my downstairs neighbors. They also had a newborn baby that cried all the da## time! I really don't like kids all that much but I didn't go and ask them "Um could you please keep your kid from crying. To those of us who don't have kids it is quite annoying." I did feel like saying that but alas I live in an apartment so it is expected..........

How about a flaming bag of Sube Ru's POO??? Just kidding. Now that would NOT be an ADULT thing to do! :D

I understand that the videotapes may not be admissable in court, but do you have a video camera that documents date/time? If so, everytime you go out, make sure that you have a new videotape in, documenting most importantly the date and time and just keep stashing them away - labeled. Chances are, this neighbor is going to be documenting the times you are away and he hears barking. If the Animal Control comes over and says, your neighbor complained that your dogs were barking last night when you both left the house, you can show him the tape, with the time and date on it showing that they didn't bark.

It may not fly in Court, but it may not even make it to Court if you are able to show that they didn't bark.

Who knows - I could be full of beans! But it's a suggestion.

I dont see Subi's Mom as the bad guy here. If her dogs are barking when she leaves the house and the neighbor is annoyed by it he could have taken a more neighborly, respectful approach, whether by note or personal visit. By his leaving a nasty, threatening note right off the bat that only put her on the defensive and created tension between them. Its very hard to respond kindly after being threatened. If he had left a note simply advising them that the dogs bark when they leave - could they do something, my guess is that Subi's Mom would be concerned and try to resolve the situation in an equally respectful way.

I hope the situation can be resolved peacefully. It shows what a good person you are by waiting until you have cooled down before responding.

No good, it's very easy to set the date on a camera to the date you need :)

video taping

I think the tape is a wonderful idea with a current date or not, you were smart to think of it. Just showing that they are left in the their crates and don't bark to me would be enough.

The only thing your neighbor could counter with is a tape of a dog barking and I would think that could be disproved too as not your dogs..

Good Luck and watch that neigbor...

First of all, venting here is the purpose of forums of this type! We all need support from time to time so we can calm down and not go over and rip someones head off. And when you are confronted by a nasty neighbor like that then it's hard to know what to do. I would give him one chance to make ammends, pour lotsa honey on the jerk. Then if he doesn't behave better from then on, then just ignore what he's saying because you tried. You never know, if you find you are sugar sweet to him, you may make him the best neighbor you could hope for, I doubt it, but maybe his social skills just aren't up to par :p !!!!

Our neighbors behind us hate us just because we put up a fence for Bingo and have been very nasty and immature. We (I should say my hubby because I think I would have used a few un lady like words!!!!!;) ), and poured the sugar on after several of their complaints about whatever! Well, it lasted for the conversation, then they went back to being mad. We gave them a chance, and some people just aren't mature enough to handle interation with others. So I try to ignore them, but it's very hard since they are virtually in our backyard.

But, we returned their nastiness with maturity and they still didn't get it. So, we gave up. That's all you can do. Being an ADULT doesn't mean you have to give up what you stand for all the time. I have learned to stand up for myself and if people want to be jerks, let them, because there always will one around the next corner. I think it's too bad you had to be the vent for someone who doesn't know how to communicate. So I'd keep videotaping, never know what some jack a... like that will do. Also try and pour a little honey on him, but also stand up for yourself. I know barking dogs are annoying, but he's also an ADULT himself and knows exactly where he chose to live. And sometimes people forget that they could be living next to A LOT worse situations than barking dogs.
