GRRRR my neighbor threatened my dogs

WOW..... is that rude how could you stand living next to them. I would sure have a NICE talk with him. And he ready to punch his lights out. But I wouldn't. Try to make him feel real stupid, like asking "what would be the ponit of you writing this letter? Are you afraid of us... that you could not tell us in person? and show him the letter.

My dogs do not bark when we're not home as I have proof. So if you don't stop your petty little threats I'm going to kick your a**

Hmmm...probably not a good idea, eh? I guess that would make matters worse. But it might shut him up and make YOU feel better :D Just kidding!

On a more serious note, I wouldn't won't to trade places with you. The videotaping is a good idea. Maybe you can have a tape for each day of the week. If nothing has happened in the last week, you can record over last week's tape. That way you always have a week's worth of tapes and you don't have to have an elaborate system of cataloging.

I agree with everybody, your neighbour should have talked to you instread of leaving you a note.

Reading all these posts makes me appreciate my neighbor. Our Nala barks a lot when we leave her (about 15 to 20 min) and our neighbor seems not to mind. I talked to them about it and they told me it was no bother. They have two Labs and I think they do understand that dog sometimes bark.

I hope things get better for you.

The video tape is not that good of an idea because who is to know if you are in the house or not? If it came to a fight I know I'd bring it up and probably even say you set the tape up but stayed out of view :-(

I think if it were me I'd get an independant witness to watch you set up the tape and watch you leave and watch the house that you don't come back. Perhaps another neighbour because I feel sure that in a court of law those tapes will not hold water at all.

Also rather than taping the dogs it might be better to tape the front of the house, out the window or whatever to see if you pick up any disturbances that may make them bark.

Some neighbors are just going to be jerks no matter what. We are lucky enought to have a set of these too. They are civil enough to our dog, but they are complete @$$holes to us!

Our houses are on corner lots so our driveways run into each other at the very end with a tiny little wedge of grass that belongs to us. Well they try to park 5 cars in a 2 car driveway so they consistently park part on our driveway and have just about killed our little strip of grass. We put some Christmas lights on stakes between the driveways to make a subtle point - they drove right over them and broke them!! We called bylaw enforcement once because they were parked on the sidewalk and they got a $30 ticket.

THEN they had the nerve to call the police on us one evening when we had friends over and were in the hot tub out back! ONE couple and us. No music on or anything! They brought their dog too and as soon as they barked we put them both in the house. The four of us were in the tub and it wasn't even 11 pm when the cops came into the yard. They were actually laughing when they saw the huge "disturbance."

I feel for you!! People like that should just move into a little cabin in the woods!

duplex/apt. living

I have another suggestion. One thing I lucked out on when I was living in duplex and apartments was that my bedrooms and bathrooms were on the wall closest to the neighbor. I found that by shutting these doors to these rooms, I could basically turn the stereo all the way up, or have a live band play in my living room and the neighbors couldn't hear a thing.
Great idea with the video, by the way. Unfortunately, I'm with you, I know how it feels to live that close to jerky neighbors.

All of these posts that assume the neighbor is the bad guy...sure the dogs were recordered...so they didn't bark, does that mean they never bark?

YOU be the adult and go talk to the guy. I would be ticked too if I lived in a duplex next to barking dogs. So go talk to him and find WHEN the dogs are barking.

I don't like to cause problems for my neighbors, but I won't hesitate to call on a barking dog or something like that. I respect them and I am quiet, I deserve the same. Problem is my neighbors never speak up. A guy was beating his girlfriend in their townhouse...no one called the police, but me. I am glad I did the right thing!

I can understand that barking dogs can be annoying. However my opinion is if you are living in a close quarters situation i.e. apartment complexs, townhouses, duplexs , then you have to be willing to deal with hearing and knowing what your neighbors are doing. You are going to hear the toliet flush, them taking a shower, when they wash clothes, and sometimes smell the nasty food they are cooking , them walking around........I could keep going. Sure it is annoying as he$$, but that is how life is in these types of places. It stands to reason if such a person doesn't own a dog and are bothered by dogs barking, useing the toilet outside and other numerous things doggies do then find a place to live that doesn't allow dogs. I am sure those places do exist because I myself have had a hard time just finding places to accept my animals.
