Our boxer Molly is going to be 9 months on the 29th of Oct. and she seems to be getting a little more independent. My husband and I were just wondering why our boxer sometimes growls when we tell her to sit. She seems as if she is protesting in her own way. Am I just overreacting or is she challenging us now that she is getting a little older?

I am moving your thread to the dog training forums where you will be sure to get more answers :)

Doc does that too. Just when I tell him to sit he always has to growl before he'll do it. Doc is 9 months old too and going through an independence thing. I wonder how long they go through that and if the growling is just a part of it.

Sounds like they're entering adolescence :) It is very important to keep training them during this time, 15-30 minutes every day, to ensure that they are comfortable with your relationship and leadership. There are several threads in the forums on this, a search on "adolescence" or "adolescent" will pull up lots of advice for you!
