My 6 month old female has been very listless for a couple of days. So much that I got very worried and I took her to an emergency vet last night. He took all her signs and found everything to be stable. (thank God) She has a hard time walking and appears very tired. She does eat, does her business outside with no problems. (with an assist from me carrying her) Blood fine. Today another vet mentioned that boxers and other large breed dogs have pain in the legs due to rapid growth, known as "growing pains". She gave me medication and told me to just keep an eye on her. I've been cruising sites trying to find any mention of this but so far have not seen anything. She gets up for a bit then goes back to lay down. Any help would make me sleep better..if at all!

Hmmm. I imagine your vet is talking about panosteitis (see under inherited musculoskeletal disorders). That is a possibility, although it isn't a condition common to boxers. Hip dysplasia is far more common condition affecting this breed, which could explain the difficulty in walking but wouldn't really produce the listlessness.

How is her appettite and balance?

growing pains?

I since have found more info about the problem. Rapid growth in the large bones of the legs can sometimes cause pain due to bone growing faster than the ligaments. She eats fine, but sometimes decides the walk to her dish isn't worth the pain. In that case its Daddy to the rescue and I'll bring her food and water to her. It may last a few months, or a few weeks, it depends the vet said. Any other info anyone else has would be appreciated! Oh yes..her balance is as well as it can be considering her achy legs.
