This is exactly how I use the Zoom Groom on Kaybie. It works wonderful this way.

Me Too !! It is a job to be done outdoors though that is for sure. I find the Zoom Groom works like a charm, but I agree very little hair sticks to it.

What I did find though was that Odie lost very little hair initially, only when he lost his puppy coat could I brush him properly.

zoom groom best results...

to get the most out of the zzom groom, in short, rapid strokes,(not too hard to be uncomfortable, just invigorating) brush BACKWARDS (against the growth) first. Then, brush the "right" way (head to tail direction) using the same type of stroke. The third step is to turn the brush upside down (with the little "face" portion against the dog. Slick the coat with this side. Their coat will be even MORE smooth than usual!Because the boxer hair is so short, a lot may not "stick" to the brush, but you should either have a ton of hair on the floor, or as previosly stated in the threads, wipe off with a grooming glove or your hand. If you have to "wipe" the hair off, keep stroking with that smooth end. This 3 step method is also great for distributing the oils in their coat and taking care of the "itchies".

I use the Zoom Groom on both my animals, and I think it works great. They get very clean and all the stray hair gets taken off. I do it against the "grain" of the hair, not only to get the extra hair but to make sure their skin is clean also, not just their hair. But I also brush them before and after bathing just to make sure I'm getting everything.
