Grief

My 5 y/o boxer has not been the same since losing Violet in December and it is getting worse. She literally sleeps all day. I take her on 2 walks per day, and she seems her normal self during those walks but seems depressed all other times. She doesn't get up to follow me anywhere, rarely greets me at the door when I come home, etc. I've been trying to give her extra time, walks, trips to the pet store, training games, etc, but she isn't interested. I am going to make a vet appt when the vet opens tomorrow, but I want to ask about your experiences. If you have more than 1, and 1 passed away, how long did it take for your dog to bounce back?

I am sorry that you are going through this. Dogs can mourn just like people. I would definitely have her checked out by your vet and make sure that there aren't any health issues. Maybe you need to get her a new puppy!

Oh my that’s sad. I wish I had advice... hopefully she’ll come around soon and see what the vet says.

I have always made sure they knew the other dog passed, that way they never wonder why their "sibling" isn't around. I also changed up their routine. After Arabella passed I started taking Skully on hikes and looked for new local trails. He also got a few play dates with dogs he knew.

Thanks for the replies. She has been checked by the vet and there is nothing wrong with her except a little arthritis starting in her back. We have a frenchie puppy who is a holy terror and has been keeping her as active as he can, but he often plays alone. Poppy has never been the typical hyper boxer - she has always been really chill. Maybe the loss of Violet has just made her "chillness" more apparent. IDK, but I hope she is happy.
