Completely Boxer Crazy
My boy Hook's left eye will sometimes get some kind of grey film over it. It only happens to his left eye...and it seems to happen after a good, hard play. Could it be something to do with alergies? I know he has bad allergies, but it scares me when this happens because it looks so bad. He doesnt seem to mind it.
Any thoughts on what it may be?

Does it go away or is it always there and just more noticeable after a hard play? Lexi has this film on both her eyes and vet stated it is corneal dystrophy. It is just a hazy film. Here are the definitions of the 3 types of corneal dystrophy

a. Dominant granular dystrophy usually starts while the pup is still young. This can be seen as small white dots in the centre of the cornea or may take the form of lines radiating from the centre. These signs can increase in size and number and by adulthood, opacities are visible to the naked eye.

b. Recessive macular dystrophy usually starts during young adult time period and appears as a thin superficial corneal veil with isolated opacities when seen with a slit lamp. It is the least common type of dystrophy. Acute, short lived, attacks may be experienced and there is increasing haziness of the central part of the cornea and increasing isolated opacities.

c. Dominant lattice-like dystrophy can develop in infancy but more usually during the reproductive peak of life. This is seen as a cobweb of fine lines which develop into a lattice-like pattern. From your dog's golden years onwards, the centre of the cornea can become irregular with ill-defined opacity. Although in some people the pattern of progress is less severe, acute attacks are experienced which can contribute to relatively early onset of sight loss.

I hope this helps!

Gray film on the eye

My first boxer, Boomer, had a gray film on his one eye also. It turned out to be an eye ulcer. We had to treat the eye with an eye salve. The vet had to "stain" the eye to make the diagnosis of eye ulcer. The salve did heal the ulcer. It gradually shrunk in size until it completely disappeared. You may want to ask your vet about that. Good luck!! :)

eye trouble

had the same thing. Turned out to be an eye ulcer. Good thing I took him. It was small. However, after six weeks of treatment with eye drops, etc. still didn't heal. Had to have surgery. Strongly advise to go to vet. I'd be willing to bet ya its an eye ulcer. If you don't get it fixed, could lead to serious trouble.
