I've always wondered if anyone else's boxers do this. Whenever we let Tucker out of his crate or come home from being gone the first thing he does is grab a toy, bone or whatever is lying around, picks it up in his mouth and runs around with it. Of course he is kidney beaning the whole time and he is make his, "I'm so happy to see you noise". But no matter what he will grab whatever toy/bone is in his crate or on the living room floor and prances around with it. If nothing is readily available he will search for something, then come over and say hi. Titus doesn't do this at all, only Tucker, the other thing is he won't drop it until 5 minutes or so have gone by.

Does anyone else have a boxer that does this?

Yes!! Samantha used to do it when she was younger (she's 5 now), and she will still occasionally greet me with a toy in her mouth! I just love it--it's so cute! And the beaning that goes with it!!lovicon

My boxer Tyson doesn't do it, but my chihuahua Poncho does, and he actually tries to put the toy in MY mouth, which is pretty gross, if he doesn't have a toy he starts crying really loud, I mean REALLY loud, especially if my husband starts talking to him, its so loud the others dogs get really nervous and start barking and try to make him be quiet! Its funny but deafening.

lol, my welcome home routine is similar. Rocky will bean like crazy then get a toy but before he can reach me Princess (Rat Terrier) will stop him and try to take the toy from his mouth.. so they forget about me and go about in their argument for the toy :)

My boxer doesn't do it but my friends lab mix will pick up anything she can find and bring it to you, whether it be mail, a shoe or a toy. It's really funny, I wonder where they get that.

Muggsey does this too. When I come home, he has to grab whatever is closest. That could be a shoe, a toy or if nothing else is around, I have to give him my keys!! I love all the beaning and grunting that goes with it too. I also like it because then if he is focused on the toy, I can actually get up the stairs without him biting my feet!!!

Mine does it, and my mom's boy does it as well. I also wonder what that's all about. I have noticed that he's calmer once he does get his toy - he tries to jump and gets really wild without a toy, but he'll just run circles (four feet on the ground) when he has a toy - so I actually encourage him to go pick up a toy if he's hyper when we get home or have guests.

Yes, Brindy does this. But she gets her wiggles out first. Then she grabs a baby(hers) or a toy and makes laps around the coffee table....Come and get me:)

She also will get a baby or a toy and when your doing something come up behind you and put the toy up against your leg. Like she's saying....Hey look at me.....pay attention to me I want to play:)
Aren't they just so funny

Katie does something similar with grass and new people, when she was a pup @3 mo's, some people were walking by and didnt notice her, so she grabbed a handful of grass in her mouth, there she was huffing, with grass and roots/dirt hanging out of her mouth, well these people couldnt resist either, so they start fawning over her with lots and lots of love,
So, now at 4 yrs old, she still looks for things to pick up and have hanging out of her mouth when she meets people who wont pay attention to her immediately. it is too funny!

But, she doesnt do this with me, guess i didnt reinforce this.

I do get lots of beaning and kisses! and that is all that counts!
