Is there a certain age or age range that boxers gray? I'm just wondering because we have 2 boxers from different breeders... they are 7 months apart, but Roxy's face is almost totally gray, and JoJo's face is totally black still. Roxy just turned 5 on Jan 5th, and JoJo will be 5 in July. Just wondering if anyone had any input. I'm a groomer, so I've seen lots of different ages and stages of different breeds... but I don't get that many boxers in for grooming because they're so easy to maintain at home. I realize 5 is middle age for a boxer, but she just looks so OLD and it breaks my heart!

Max has quite a bit of grey on his face. I think he started getting silver on his muzzle when he was about two. If you look at some of the pictures in my gallary, you can see he's quite silver. lol. His poor ears are even turning grey.. it makes me so sad! :(

Boxers seem to go gray at different ages. I saw a 4 year old that was quite gray and was really surprises when I heard her age. I am sure that genes have something to do with it.

I think Killian started to get grey around 5-6 (you can see his pics in my gallery). He will be 9 in March. It doesn't make me sad tho, I think it makes him look very distinguished! :) As long as he is happy and healthy it's all good....

LOL - there's an age range, but it's not very helpful. Most dogs start going grey between 3-8 years old. It's really just like people. Some of us have our first grey hairs before even hitting 20, while others of us are close to 50 before the grey appears. Well, it's the same for dogs and some are barely mature before the grey hairs appear, whilst others are well into their "senior" phase before it's apparent.

I think Max is quite handsome and dignified looking with his silver. **smooch**

I had a female who passed a little over a year ago that was 11 years old and had maybe 2 grey hairs on her muzzle.
Baron's parents were starting to silver at 5 years old so I imagine he will get that distinguished look around then too.

My Sandy will be 5 in June and her little black muzzle is silvery gray.
She don't act old but she sure looks it.

That makes me feel better! Roxy acts like a typical boxer, so I just won't worry about it! I just thought it was weird that between our 2 there is only 7 months between them, and she is so gray and he's not! I had never thought about how it varies with people... one of my friends has had gray hairs since high school and I still don't have any!!! (knock on wood!)

Gray

I Oscar got a lot greyer when we got Jasmine, and I think it was b/c he was stressed out by her. Before Jasmine he had a few grey hairs here and there but now hes gotten a lot more.

I think Cookie started to go gray at around 6. She's 13 now, and her whole head is white, along with lots of gray on her front legs. My gallery has some recent photos of her, as well as some older ones.
