Got my baby a pool...Have a ?

I want to start off by saying that Darby loves water. She is very good when taking a bath (she just stands there ). Also this past weekend was her first time at the river. She did wonderful on the boat ride and once we got to the beach she did great. There was like 45-50 people ther and the beach was pretty small. She did not bother anyone (mom was very proud ).

So my question is...I got her a pool on sunday and I put her in it (and I got in also) and she just jumped right back out (I only have about an inch of water in there). So now she just stands there and looks at it. How do I get her to know that this is her pool and she should get in it if she need to cool off or just wants to play in it? Maybe I am just over reacting...thinking she should just love it because she LOVES the water. I just want her to enjoy it.

I guess if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them. Thanks for letting me ramble on

My Cooper did this when I got him a kiddie pool too.
I think it is because of the way the bottom feels on their feet....I bought a non-skid shower mat and put in the bottom on the pool and threw a few of his toys in there and within a few days he knew it was his pool....

Putting her toys in there is a great idea, also get in with her again and give lots of praise and treats. She will realize she is supposed to be in there. Sometimes Killian will look at me crazy if he is offered something out of the ordinary like "Mom, is this a trick?" and of course when it gets warm enough she will probably just go flop down in it.

maverick did this too. he got use to it though after a while. he loves it now. i ditn push him to get in it either i just let him get in it on his own. at first my fiance was like you just bought a really big water bowl not a pool. but they will get use to it. trust me if they get hot enough they will get in. try to put more water in it.

I guess that was another question I had. How much water to put in? I did not want to much so if she would like to kind of lay in it she would not be afraid.

I got Oscar a new kiddie pool a couple of weeks ago. My other dog likes them so why not. At first he was a bit leary, but I took some of his favorite squeaky toys and threw them in. Now he plays in it, if that is what you call it, he wades in it and puts his face under water and blows bubbles. Try some toys that might be the key to getting her to like the kiddie pool.

Lillie, Mindy & Emma just look at me like I am loco when I fill the pool. George knows what it is and jumps right in. I have caught Lillie in there now laying in it for a few minutes, and Mindy has started standing in it to drink some of the water. I don't push the issue. I toss a couple floatie toys in and will play with them if they go in/near it. George is showing the girls what a cool thing it is though.

Toni has a kiddie pool. I fill it up and she loves to splash around in it. I used the favorite toy trick when I first brought it home. Just tossed a couple of toys in there and when she wanted them she went in for them. She also loves water, except for rain.

Aubie thinks water is sent from the devil himself and won't get near water if he can avoid it. He does not go in the pool. He tolerates a bath but he is definitely not happy.

LOL - I tried the pool idea - my crazy dog just chews holes in them. Guess he thinks it a toy! :(
