Goodbye, Sofie

Hi, I don't know if anyone here remembers me. I was active here starting in 2007 when my boxers were pups. This place was invaluable for information on boxers. I remember I was so excited and active here to learn everything about my boxers. I don't remember when or why I stopped posting. Anyway, I thought I'd check back in. We had to put Sofie down on Sunday. Arrow is now without his lifelong partner. Sofie was really sick and I had to make the decision to put her out of her pain. My 3 kids (ages 23,19, & 14) came to the vet with me. We all hugged and pet Sofie as she took her last breath. Man, that was so hard to do. She was a part of our family. Arrow has always been the more playful one, but she definitely had a playful side. She was also a very loving dog. No matter how bad a day I had, they would greet me at the door with love and happiness. I had forgotten until recently because it wasn't as exaggerated when she got older, but we used to call her kidney bean. When she was happy to see you, her entire back end would wiggle and then she'd curl up like a kidney bean. I feel like a part of me is gone:

TE]Sofie 021416.jpg The breeder brought you and three of your siblings to our house so that we could pick one. You were the one that immediately came up to us and wanted us to make you a part of our family. We picked your brother that day but after a month and a half we decided to get another pup. As if it were fate they had one pup left and it was you. You were always loving to everyone. Anyone who met you, loved you, especially your family. You weren't just a pet, you were a part of our family. It was hard to have to let you go today. I'm glad that your family was by your side. You will always be remembered, Sofie.[/QUOTE]

She looks just like Trudy who I had to have put down in 2013. Trudy was one of 2 remaining pups. The "ugly sister" went and took a nap under an azalea bush, Trudy crawled up on my lap and made sure to get her toe nails stuck in my silk teeshirt right over my heart. When the inevitable came I held her head in my lap but she never turned lose of my heart. A year passed and Waldo moved in. Totally different and that's good because you never replace a dog you just make a new place.

So very sorry to hear about your beautiful Sofie. She was so loved. I know all too well the pain you are feeling as we said good bye to our precious Ms. Alil almost 6 weeks ago. It is so hard. These wonderful dogs take a huge part of our hearts. Take care and treasure the wonderful memories of your sweet girl. RIP sweet girlie. Hugs

Thank you all for the kind words. I had a pretty rough time for the first few days. I'm doing better now. I can't remember ever having a pet's passing affect me this much. But life is getting back to normal.

Also, Arrow has been getting a lot of extra attention lately. He seems to be doing fine with losing his sister. He was in distress when she was sick, but not now. I know boxers and pure breeds in general don't typically live much beyond 10-12 years but I hope Arrow sticks around for a few more. I don't wanna have to go through this again for a long time.
