I really need you guys to help me.
My little sister is five months pregnant with her second child. She's already suffered two miscarriages, one before my beautiful 18 month old baby niece and one after so we were so happy when she got to this stage.
Mandy had her scan on Monday and the doc said that the bub's kidneys looked slightly strange so they called her back for another scan yesterday and a meeting with the specialist. The scan has shown the kidneys are not what they were expecting and they found two 'soft spots'. If these were two separate things they would be fine seemingly but combined they mean a very high chance that the bub has downs syndrome. The only good sign so far is that, when the specialist measured the bub's arms, legs and feet, they were all the normal size for the bub's age (seemingly downs syndrome means the limbs don't form how they would normally).
This morning my poor sister had an amniocentesis (sp?) and now they have to wait until Wednesday next week to find out what's happening. Three days before Christmas and she's either going to get great news or potentially devastating news. Not to mention that actually having the procedure has given her an extra 5% chance of miscarriage.
