I am the future owner of a baby boxer, and I was wondering when is it that you would have their ears clipped? What would be the safe age etc? Does that same time period apply to the tail also? I'm new to this so it may be a "no brainer", just need a lil help.... Thanks...

The tail is done at 3-5 days. Ears are generally done between 10-14 weeks, although each vet will have their own preference. Contact breeders in your area who have ear crops that you like, and find out who does them - there are generally only a few vets that the majority of breeders use. An ear crop by an unskilled vet can be nasty!

Scrapper's ears were done when he was 8 weeks old. He was so young, I was worried, but we went to one of the best vets in NorCal for ear cropping. Thankfully, everything turned out great. Be sure to tell them "No ACEPROMAZINE" a pre-surgical tranquilizer/sedative that many vets use. In Boxers and certain other breeds, it can have adverse effects of lowering their heart rate and blood pressure even causing death. Just avoid it.

RE: Ears

Our puppy was 11 weeks old and we had her ears cropped last Wednesday. It has been hard on all of us. It will definitely be worth it when it's said and done, but be ready before you do this. She has scratched until she pulled out the stitches in one of her ears and we're just having to keep a real close eye on her. I almost wish the vet would have prescribed me something instead of her - ha ha! It will take patience and she will requre a lot of attention.

You usually should get ears done before 12 weeks, so I hear. Just make sure you research and get someone who knows boxer ears and has done enough to be great at it. Definitely talk to breeders or people who show boxers in your area. That's how we found our vet and we are pleased thus far. Good luck!!

You'll love your new friend! Boxers rule!
