i'm new to bw.....great site.....here's the story (question)...we just got our first boxer (kobe 8 weeks) and we've always planned on getting 2 boxers....male and female.....no breeding.....just wanted opposite sexes. But of course we didn't want to get litter mates cuz we know that's too much at one time. my wife already found a wonderful breeder for our future girl. she will be born mid march and will be ready to come home mid may when kobe will be nearly 6 months old. the 2 boxers will only be 4 months apart. is this wise? or should we wait at least a year before getting the 2nd one due to dominance issues. will 2 boxers that close in age have dominance issues with each other later? i also must add that we have a 7 year old collie-mix female and a neutered 2 year old sheltie as well. the sheltie is easy going and flexible and loves everyone.....but our 7 year old is a bit dominant herself with other dogs from time to time....nothing really serious....but we are kinda concerned about that as well....again, we are in question as to whether or not we are getting our 2nd boxer too soon.....any input would be greatly appreciated...

At six months your exististing boxer will start challenging your authority and act like a teenager. He will start becomming quite a handful and it may not be a good time to get another boxer. I would personally wait until he was around 2 before addding another boxer to the pack. As Kobe is only 6 months old he probably hasn't even developed his real personality yet. Real problems don't usually develope between dogs until they mature. When the time comes to look for another dog, I would be looking for a submissive female.

Good luck in whatever you decide and welcome to Boxerworld!

I sure agree with Jan. Cheetah (female) was 15 months old when we got
Guinness (pup)...Cheetah had been going through the crazy teenage stage..and was just beginning to settle down a bit. When we brought Guinness home at 10 weeks old...He really brought out the Mother instinct in Cheetah and maturity. She watches over and protects him....Washes his little droopy face..tugs at his ear and gently pulls him towards me when I call him and he won't come. They adore each other...and if you've never seen two boxers play hard with each other...you're in for a treat! But, getting back to your original question....If we had gotten a boxer puppy when Cheetah was
going through her ..well...obnoxious stage....it would have driven us crazy keeping up with both their childish pranks...
plus..Cheetah at her age now helps us potty train/bell train Guinness.
What ever way you choose..you won't be sorry in the long run with two boxers....there is nothing like it.

thankx for the input....i think we've decided to wait til kobe's 1.5 to 2....depending on his maturity....the wait will be terrible....reading other posts about homes with 2 boxers makes me crack up and look forward to receiving our 2nd boxer.....why did it take me this long to get our first boxer, i'll never understand.....
