That sounds like a pretty good deal, although I haven't looked up the T3i's prices online so I don't know what it's going for these days. But the camera itself got GREAT reviews in my newest issue of Popular Photography!

The 18-200mm lens is a good all-purpose lens. A decent one to start with IMO. If you end up really getting into photography you can always buy more lenses!

You will definitely need to buy another memory card though. I have a 2GB, a 4GB, and a 16GB card, and I can fill up the 2GB card pretty quickly on my 10 megapixel camera, especially when I'm using burst mode taking action shots of the dogs. Since the T3i is an 18 megapixel camera I imagine you will have no problem maxing out a 2GB card!

DEFINITELY find out about a battery AND charger before you buy!!

I'm a Nikon person myself but I think it's a bit much in the USA you should be able to find some really good deals.

I considered buying that camera a few months ago as it got great reviews as Zoë mentioned. Still considering it but I want a faster autofocus in live mode so I can have a full use of the tilting screen.

Get indeed a large memory card since you can also take HD videos with that camera!

I believe for a little more than the 18-200 you can get a 70-200f4 which is a great light zoom with a constant f4. It is not as convenient as the 18-200 as you would miss the wide angle (but there is no big distorsion and it is a faster lens).

We're Nikon all the way too in this household. My husband and I are professionals so we stick to a much more heavier duty camera, but if you could find a great D7000 or D90 kit those ones are pretty nifty.

If you're looking for more of a point and shoot type camera, but really great quality, we love the Fuji X10. It's expensive, but amazing in picture quality and it shoots RAW files so editing them in Photoshop or other photo editing programs are simple.
