Hi everyone
I was reading our free local paper last night and they had a story about a family who's boxer was stolen from their backyard when it was three months old. It was by good sense the owners microchipped their pup. When the pup was taken they rang vets put up signs everywhere (I remember seeing them). Well twelve month later the dog was returned to them because it was at a local pound and they scanned it for a micrchipped and it was there dog Kosta. So the moral to the story is a microchip can return your pet even if it takes a while.

Great story! A friend of mine had a dog that ran away and they found it a couple months later a hundred miles away! Microchips work! Mine both have them. ;)

That is great news, there have been so many cases of dog napping over here in the Uk just lately and it scares me silly.
Both of my babies are chipped but I've wondered what would happen if they did go missing and when they were scanned the new owners said they'd been sold the dog. Would a vet really question things?

They automaticaly contact you to make sure. They won't hand the dog over to the people until it's all sorted out. If you say it is ok, the dog was re-homed then they switch the info then so it won't happen again. ;)

Thanks India, I did wonder but say someone bought a stolen dog and took it to their vets to register etc and the vet had no need to scan it then it wouldn't work though would it?
I guess they mainly work for lost, roaming dogs.

Glad they got there pup back!!!

I saw a story on the news about a cat that had been missing for 5 years. The shelter here in Winston-Salem had picked it up as a stray. The family that had lost the cat lived in Tennessee! Imagine that! 5 yrs and 400 miles from home!!
