This afternoon, my dad took my son down to my gram's house for a visit. I was in the house doing laundry and kitten-sitting for my sister. Bella, my sister's dog was tied in the yard and my brindle, Holly, wasn't tied. When my son left, he forgot to shut the gate!!!!! Holly had free roam of the alley and access to neighbor's yards and such!! I was walking into the kitchen and noticed thru the backdoor that the gate was open...I thought OH NO where's Holly?????????? To my surprise, she was laying in the grass under the tree!
My question is: Does Holly know better to leave her yard, for fear she may get 'in trouble'? Or did we do a good job in training her? Wish she could talk so I'd know! ;)

Hey, at this point in Lukes life (Stella is great at staying in our lil part of the world, our apt), but I have tried EVERYTHING to get Luke to understand to ONLY stay in our apt NO MATTER WHAT and nothing works! He has busted thru the screens on the windows when we wernt home and the people at the office were nice enough to shove him back through the window. Kids have caught him and play with him until we have returned! He was never left alone like that for more than 10 min, but still! Anything would help!

LOL! Your hilarious!

You could test it out and leave the gate open and stay in the front yard and have someone in the back yard show her and walk away and see if she tries to escape. Maybe she didn't realize it was open? :)

Wow, you are so lucky!! Mine can't go unattended. They will run and chase the cats nextdoor!! Congrats on doing an excellent job training:) Can you come to my house:LOL:

I would consider myself lucky. It's still a good idea to make sure the gate is always closed! Also continuing training will only give you and your fur baby more confidence:)

We are very lucky ( or very well trained by our boxers) neither one of ours has any inclination to leave their property. Mason IMO is not "dog enough" to wander, he knows where his couch is and he has no need to stray too far from the beloved couch LOL. Aspen-I thought she would be a problem because she loves the outdoors and always has, but to our great suprise and relief...she has never ever tried to escap or bolted. As a matter of fact, she got mass kudo's the other day, we accidently left the garage door opened and there she was on the threashold just looking out, she could have easily taken off but she knew she was not to go past the door and that is where she stayed!!!!! WE lived in a house for about 6 months with no fence, we showed them the boundry lines and they never left our yard ( though I was always panicked and always sat outside with them when they were out)
