Hi! I just caught this thread. We got Loke as a 2 month old puppy when our first born was 5 months old. We already had Corgan, sheltie, for a year when Jennifer was born. Loke to me was a terror to houstrain, but I also had an infant taking up alot of my time. Truthfully, I'm glad we didn't get a puppy too soon after having a baby, but I think we could've waited just a bit longer. Usually around 7-8 months the baby is much easier!!;) Only you will know when you are ready for a puppy to be thrown in the mix though. Loke was great with the baby even though she was also a baby. She was also great when we had our second daughter 2 years later. She is very tuned into the kids. Corgan would even howl when he heard the baby cry and it was a great attention getter that usually ended up calming the baby!! They are the first ones to investigate the crying, Loke especially. Good luck with your new baby and boxer!!

Draco came into our world in 2000-------he was 18 months old then. In June 2001 my daughter was born. Draco was so wonderful with her-----he tolerated everything about her. 2002 Jan, at the age of 3 Draco passed away. I didnot want to live without a Boxer and Argos entered our lives. He was 2 and 1/2--------a perfectly sweet boy, a source of constant laughter. Argos is with my daughter all the time, was with her when she crawled and then when she started walking. Today we adopted our 3rd Boxer child, a beautiful brindle whom we named Theia. All morning my daughter has been on Theia's face and she is doing just great with her. I am glad Royina my daughter will be spending so much quality time with Argos and Theia. Boxers are beautiful dogs. It is unimaginable how much joy, happiness and laughter they can bring.

partyicon Well it's been a while for me to come and visit the ol' Boxerworld forum!

I just wanted to let the few folks that new that my wife and I were expecting our first child know that we had a beautiful baby girl, Madison Nicole born on May 30th- 6lbs.-12oz. 20in. She is the greatest little mircle in our lives! We love her so much! Unfortunately we can't really afford to get a dog right now like we wanted to:(. My work has been slow unfortunately, but it has let me be around more to help my wife with the baby. I hope after I find a new job and start getting a solid income coming in again, we can start thinking about getting a dog again. Well I hope all is well with all you!

Joe, Kim, and Baby Madison!

Congratulations on your new baby and best wishes to you! fiestaicon One day the time will be right and you will have your Boxer baby to love as well. They are such special dogs, it's as if they were almost a different species. I've had dogs all my life, but none of them - and we loved them all - none of them can be compared to Scrapper. It will be worth the wait!lovicon Hope all goes well for you soon, and our economy gets a good swift kick in the hiney!

Welcome!

Welcome baby Madison!! fiestaicon fiestaicon And congratulations to you and Kim! What fun times ahead for all of you!
You are wise to wait on the Boxer of your dreams, given the situation. Two great bits of advice I've had in my life are, "When you make the best budget for a baby, DOUBLE it!" And "When you make the best budget for a dog, DOUBLE it!" That's what you'll relly need (after you include the wild impulse to buy toys)
But the day will come when we are welcoming home your Boxer baby and we get to read all about Madison and the new addition.
Congrats again!

Hello again!

I'm not sure if any of you even remember me or not since its been so long since I visited your great site 2-21-2005!! Far to long to be away from such a great site and a great Boxer owners!!!!

Well to bring you up to date on myself and family.....were expecting baby number two any day now and we moved from the golden state (AKA Cal.) to Pennslyvania (Pitt. area). We've quadrupled the size of our yard.....2.8 acres to be exact. And were looking into adopting a boxer! Preferrably a female. So my question is.....do any of you know of a good boxer rescue web site for the Pittsburgh area or surrounding cities?

I'm not sure about the legalities of posting this, so I'll try to give all the copyright references I can (because ironically enough, I just read it TODAY). This little thingy was posted on Page 21 of BabyTalk magazine (Aug 2006), and written by Stephanie Wood...

"Dog Days

A recent study of children bitten by dogs between 1994 and 2003 found that it's not a good idea to get a new dog if you also have a new baby. The research shows that when a new pup is brought into a family with a child under the age of 5, that child is more likely to get bitten than if the dog was part of the family before the baby came along..."

Also, though, take into consideration that families in this study 1) were not limited to boxers, 2) probably did not have as much support as on this board, and therefore 3) probably put more focus on baby and less on puppy training.

Hope this helps! I am due in October and Boston will be ten months old when our baby's born...

I am sure you will hear from many others, but we got a puppy when we had a 3 year old and a 18 month old....both boys. She did great! We also added two more boys before she three...no problem! She was good with all ages of their lives....and very trustworthy with infants.

I will say that this was a very busy time in our lives.
