I made reservations for my boys to go to the Tuscarora Country Club over Xmas holiday! It's only for 4 days...I want to spend a few days with the parents since I haven't for a few years. Now that I am single I can do so much more! But anyway...I am so excited because I know they are going to have fun...I am going to pay extra to take them both on nature walks by the creek, and also 2 supervised play times throughout the day.But I can't help but be a little nervous...I haven't entrusted their care in anyone else since they were wee pups! And especially with Herkie....I am going to have to give them very specific feeding instructions for him..and probably a visual lesson.Maybe I am wrong to be nervous...does anyone else get nervous when the board their furbabies?

I have never boarded Abby but I get nervous leaving her with anybody for any amount of time. I am sure they will be fine though. It sounds like a lot of fun with the play time and especially the nature walks. That is awesome!

We boarded Marco

We boarded Marco this summer for 4 days at a very highly recommended kennel. There was no supervised play time because the kennel just didn't do that. They explained that they don't risk the dogs getting in fights. But he got three walks per day, and he was in an airconditioned area.
I was so nervous leaving him there, just because it was the first time, I was confident that it was a good kennel. When we picked him up, they handed me back half his food. I had scooped out enough exactly for the 4 days. My poor Marco was so traumatized, that he hardly ate or drank. When we got home he drank a whole bowl of water then climbed on the couch and slept for 14 hours, getting up once to potty and eat. I guess you never know until you actually kennel your baby how they will react. I will try a different kennel next time that has play time. I think Marco didn't want to eat or drink because he didn't want to go to the bathroom in his area. He certainly had a huge caged in area. I was pleased with that. No matter what, it is not like being at home and I know Marco will never be happy at any kennel.

Completely Boxer Crazy
Usually we have neighbors come in and take care of the dogs when we go away, buy this last time the neighbors were gone too. So we boarded them at a local kennel for 4 days. It wasn't bad . They shared a large kennel to keep each other company. It had a doggie door so they could go in and out as they pleased. The mixed breed tried for a while to get out (he's quite an ecsape artist).but when he figured out he couldn't he just laid around and seemed sad, but he did eat and drink. Our boxer was fine. She just wiggled and kissed the kennel lady. All in all it went ok, and I would do it again if I had to.

I'm not too worried about Herkie eating...because he can be picky enough with ME!So if he doesn't eat as much as normal...I won't be too surprised. Also, the supervised play times are 1 on 1 with a person...not other dogs.I wouldn't allow them to play with other dogs with me not there to supervise. And as far as friends go...the one with a key to my house(so she can walk the boys sometimes while I am at work) has only walked them ONCE since I've been here, so I wouldn't trust my friends to do it either!I am just going to have to trust that they will take good care of my babies.

Jessica... I wouldn't worry too much about them not eating. My mom has to kennel her german shorthair sometimes and she will not eat at all. It's a small town with a small vet/kennel and the lady that runs it likes Dutchess so much that she lets her hang out in the office during hours. But even though she is around people she still won't eat when my moms not there. It sounds like a great place with the play time and the nature walks. I hope if I ever need to kennel Cyper I can find some place like that! Good Luck, I'm sure it will be fine!
