I know this question has been asked before, but....I was wondering what kind of camera you use to take your pictures?? I was looking at your gallery, and some of the ones like your boxer in the medow and that one of your boxer running was amazing! I would love to have a camera like that for myself! You have some beautiful pictures!

Umm. No easy answer, because it varies Most are taken with Nikons - D70, 40, 200 or 300. Some with Canon 350D or 30D. Lenses vary also. And a few are taken with compacts. Probably the Nikon D200 has the biggest share...

That probably doesn't help much... It might be more useful if I just say that the best camera of that line up, in every respect, is the D300. And the D200 is second LOL

Well thankyou! I know they're not cheap, but I am not looking for a cheap camera Is the Nikon D300 what you used to take your running and medow pics if you don't mind me asking? I am looking for a camera that wont blur when the target is in motion

Two things needed for that - one is a camera with a good autofocus (D300 definitely meets that criteria), second is a decently fast lens. If the lens isn't fast enough, it won't matter how good the camera is (especially if the light isn't fantastic).

As for which camera... it still depends which running and meadow shots you mean (sorry - but when I said it varies, I really meant it! And I'm afraid there are quite a few fitting that description...). Most of the most recent ones, and I think the meadow shots you mean - are all D300. This one was D200. Others I'd have to answer on a case-by-case basis

Wow the one from the D200 is an AMAZING picture!!! Very impressive Maybe even a 9 megapixel would be good for now? They are pretty fast as far as I know, but not nearly as wonderful as the D200 and D300 The meadow pic was the one thats featured when you go to click on brindle boxers BTW Thankyou for that, I will keep my eye out for such a camera!

Well, it's not really the megapixels that count (unless the dog is a long way away). What counts for photos like that is good autofocus and lens

IMO Nikon SLRs are generally better than Canon for autofocus. With a new Nikon model just announced and a couple more expected in the next month or so - you might see prices on existing models dropping somewhat.

gmacleod, I have looked up to your photography for a while now... I am destined to get some nice shots of Rocky! I definitely want to start an album of him with all sorts of different shots...

My birthday is on Saturday, I believe I'm getting a Nikon D60 SLR... It somes with a 18-55 Auto Focus VR lens... Do you think I will need more zoom (55-200?) to capture shots in motion? Is there a lens you would recommend? Since the D60 is entry level, they left out the auto focus function, so I will need a lens with AF, unfortunately...

Calendar

I think it would be a neat idea to make a calendar of boxers... but of boxers that we know from the group.

Any thoughts?

It would be neat to put dogs name, age & favorite toy or something.

It depends how close you can get to the running dog, and how much light you have That particular photo was taken with a Nikkor 18-135 lens - which is not particularly fast. On the other hand, it was taken in the South of France where there is plenty of sunlight (and even then, the photo isn't as sharp as it might be). Trying to take the same photo in the UK, where there is far less light, would have required a much faster/better lens.

The 55-200 VR seems to have a good reputation (I do not own it, so can't speak from experience) for its price. It is not a fast lens, but providing you live in a place where there are reasonable light levels, that shouldn't be too big a problem.
