I don't hunt, I can't kill stuff, but a lot of my buddies do, they're all giving me bones for Boxxy, he's in heaven, I give him a nice big deer bone in the morning everyday, he chews it and carries it around all the time, then at night I throw it out and give him a new one in the morning, my friends have been giving piles of bones and they are huge, I had one that was nearly three feet long, I should have taken a picture of Boxxy with it his mouth, is there anyone else that get deer bones for there dogs?

Ya know i hadn't thought about it but it is that time of year. i am going to hit up my dad for some bones whenever he gets his first deer. Good idea. I guess the bones don't splinter or anything???

as long as you don't cook them at all, just one thing, don't take it away from them when their chewing on it, Boxxy never growls, unless he's playin' or eatin ' a nice fresh bone

Around here, game animals can carry tapeworms, (my dogs got it from some fresh deer meat). If you freeze the meat and bones for a certain period of time (sorry- don't remember how long, but I am thinking a couple weeks), it kills the parasite.

Freezing time

I *think* you have to freeze for 7 days to kill all bacteria & parasites. I have never appreciated my dad as a hunter until I got my two pups - now I send him off hunting as often as I can!

I asked my buddy Alabama u can imagine what he's like) he said he leaves them hang in his shed for 10 days to get rid of the bacteria, it's cold here, below freezing most of the time now

Bones, meat and organs!! Anyone who feeds a raw diet has to LOVE hunting season...I know the dogs do anyway!!:D

We also save the blood....we've been making blood trails for Buck to track. Tons of fun!!:)

Does anyone know where I could BUY Deer bones here in Central Texas? I think it's cow bones I find at Petsmart and Petco here. I don't know too many hunters myself, but I can imagine how excited my kids would be to have bones that big!! :D

I have a friend who cleans, stuffs, and mounds deer. He's probably got a ton of them, tho', we're a bit too far away from you.

You may want to call a taxedermist. I think they're the ones who clean and grind the meat. Can also contact the wildlife/game commission and ask.

Good luck.

Deer Bones

Taxidermists probably won't be able to help you much. They usually only get the heads and sometimes part of the neck.

What you need to find is a deer processing place. I know there is one in Cedar Park (Cedar Park Meat Market I think). THis is the place where the hunters bring their deer to be processed. They should be able to fix you up with plenty of bones of the venison variety.

I went hunting early in the season and brought back some stuff for my guys. They really enjoyed it.
