Hi all. I took ty to the vet the other day because he had some small red bumps on his chin. The vet said it was dermatitis and some pills and cream would heal it. Well putting on the cream isn't a problem,although he wants to lick it off my fingers.The problem is giving him the pills. At first I put peanutbutter on them and they went down ok. Then after 2 pills he just licked the pb off. So then I tried hiding them in some food or treats. He just ate around the pill. The last thing I tried was tilting his head back and hoping the pill would slide down his throat.No luck. Anyone have any advice? Not sure what else do do. Thanks.

try cutting it crosswise into 4 chunks and then hiding it in a fat blob of cream cheese :)

Works for us. Hope your pup feels better soon!

I have a licker - enjoys the peanut butter and not the pills, so I stick them in PB and then put them into his food (stick it to the kibble with the PB) - he never knows!! I've heard ice cream works too!! Good luck!

Cady was on antibiotics when I got her and I tried the treats with pills inside but found out she was WAY too smart for that so I had to open her mouth put the pill back as far as I could, hold her mouth closed and rub neck so she would swallow. Harder to do, but this way I knew for sure she got her meds.

Peanut LOVED liverwurst....easy to hide the pills in and she never thought twice. We had a rough time getting them down her throat and the last week of her life we wanted to spoil her rather than fight to get her pills down.

I believe it was Jan that suggested giving the dog the pill wrapped in cheese, but you have to be a bit tricky ;). First give the dog a piece of cheese (or whatever else you decide to wrap it in) without the pill inside. Then give them another piece w/ no pill. In the third piece, give them the pill inside the treat and most likely they will gobble the third one up.

It was me, but it's actually the second piece that you put the pill in. Then you quickly follow it with the 3rd piece and they are in such a hurry for the 3rd piece that they gobble down the 2nd piece without checking it out. :)
