Girl Boxer Humping

My 12 week old female boxer puppy started humping my leg last night! I was completely shocked because I did not know females did this. I read on line that this means she is trying to assert dominance. She is a good puppy and seems to listen to me, of course she still has her puppy moments. Does anyone know what this means? Is she really trying to dominant me???

It's a dominance thing - not sexual at all. Both males and females do this when they are asserting dominance.

I suggest positive redirection! Try redirecting her attention somewhere else

Yes, humping in dogs is a dominance thing. If you do a forum search you can find more info on this topic and how to handle it. Please always do a forum search to see if your question has already been covered before starting a new thread.

I have a seven month old little girl and she's never done it...I was also shocked to find out they do, I was at my friends house a few weeks ago and saw it with another dog and they said it does mean dominance? I would like to know myself.

It can also be during times of play and high excitement. My girl is 19 months old and will go into the hump routine sometimes when she is really worked up and playing. I have even see her do it to her bed when a toy was hidden underneath it and she was frantic to get to it.

It really does not bother me and it certainly (in her case) causes no harm. Normal behavior for dogs, but if it bothers you then just redirect the behavior to something else.

Abby did it for a few weeks when she was a few months old, but she quit after a while. She had a habit of humping her bed. She would wrestle with it a while and then.... Wilson, being a boy, doesn't hump inanimate objects. He doesn't hump family either, just visitors to the house.
