Back to Gum Tumors...

I've been searching all over for information on "bumps" in the mouth, and this was the closest I could find. I was wondering if someone would mind describing to me what the gum tumors look like. Did your vet mention that they are commonly seen with the gum overgrowth? Just wondered if you could elaborate on your experience with this little more...

Lael does not have gum overgrowth that I can see, but she does have some blister-looking hard bumps on her gums (2 of them, to be exact). I wonder if they are tumors... :(

Thanks,

I would say that Billy's gums look bumpy and red. His bottom front teeth appeared at first to be getting shorter (receding), but then of course we realised the gum was growing over them.

The lumpy tumours he has are like flaps of blobby gum. These can be burnt off, but where the gum has just covered the teeth they advised not to remove it.

Any doubts - see your vet

Thanks Billysmum. That really doesn't sound anything like Lael's mouth... but we're seeing the vet this Saturday to let him take a look.

My 5-year old boxer, Drago, also has hypertrophic gums and a large tumor in his mouth. His bottom front teeth are completely covered and his gum bleeds when he chews. His tumor (it looks like a red jellybean) is located on the bottom left-hand side and he usually tries to avoid chewing on that side because it's sore and bleeds easily. I have taken him to 4 different vets over the course of a year and all of them have downplayed the seriousness of it and told me it's common to the breed. They claim it just looks worse than it is. BXR RYD pointed out that it's more common in heavy jowled boxers, which Drago is. I will try using Listerine on his gums and besides killing bacteria, hopefully it will help his breath some.

BTW- I was born at RAF Lakenheath...small world.
