We are getting our boy neutered on Friday he's just over 10 months. I read the post about ACE and then called the vet to ask what they use, they don't use ACE put they use a drug called ACP it seems to be of the same family for what I was able to find. My question is do we need to tell our vets we don't want that sedative used? We don't want anything to happen to our boy as you all can understand! Thank you for any help on this!

From what I understand ACE and ACP is the same thing.
Please insist that it will not be used on your dog. If your vet it not willing to use something else then find a new vet. When I got Sky spayed the vet also tried to convince me that ACE would be safe to use. But when I insisted that I did not want it to be used on Sky they agreed to use something else. Make sure they mark "no ace" in your dogs file and remind them again on the day you drop him off.

After Sansal said that ACE and ACP were one and the same I changed the wording of what I was looking for in a google search and found this

When I called and asked the lady on the phone what they used she had to go and ask Mark was a bit shocked she never asked why! On friday when we take our little man in we will be very insistent that ace/acp gets no where near our pup! He had his ear cleaned out and looked at a couple months ago and when we got him home Mark was watching him and swears he stopped breathing but started after he pounded on him a few times I didn't see but did watch closely after and noticed he had very shallow breath. He fine now! But We won if they used acp on him then as well and thats why. Scary that I didn't see that post about ace first!

Definitely be very firm about not using it. Also discuss what was used last time and the symptom of not breathing afterwards. That is a serious side effect and I would demand to know why and what medication he seems to be sensitive to.

Thanks everyone! Tyson has been done and all went well. We were told they didn't use acp on him last time and they don't use it on boxers anyways. They said they would keep an extra eye on him this time round but there was no problems so must have been an odd one off. He's all healed up and gets his stitches out tomorrow. Been trying to run around like a nutter that he is the day after his surgery so it's been fun trying to keep him calm. Will be interesting to see them get his stitches out as I don't see him liking the nurses anymore poor boy they like him!
