We have recently bought diesel a crate and he loves it the only problem is getting him in it in the morning. He fights me, runs around the house like a maniac, barks and wont even listen to a sit or stay command. I give him so many goodies in the crate too that i would think he would love going in there, but i guess he knows he is going to have to stay in there during the day. Is there something i could do to make it easier on both of us to get him in there. What i have been trying is leashing him and then bringing him in and it kinda works but its trying to get the leash on that is the worst. I dont want him to feel like its a bad place. Any help would be great. Sorry if this is in the wrong section, didnt know where else to put it.

I feed Felix in his crate in the morning before I go to school or work, but it helps that my SO gets up a few hours later to take him to the bathroom. Does he have enough time to play and get out some energy before you have to put him back in? you may want to get up a little earlier and take a walk or play with him a bit first. I have two dogs, so I let them out in the yard to do their thing and then they play in the house while i get ready.
Also, I usually add something yummy like sardines or raw egg or canned food to his kibble in the morning, since that is the time he least wants to go back in too. But he will just sit a couple feet away and not come to me, until I wave the smelly food in his face, or if not feeding him. I just give him a nudge and he knows to go in there.
Also- you could leave the leash attached from the time you let him out in the morning.
Good luck.

all I do is open her bag of cheese and she runs in, though it is a lot harder in the morning (though shes rarely crated during the day maybe 2-3 times a month) Those days I just take her on a long walk or hit the park and really get her tired then she doesn't mind because she wants to nap anyways.
Your right he doesn't want to go in because he knows he'll be in there all day to get him more adjusted try a trick and vary up the times he has to spend in there and even days you're home or nights out him in for 20 minutes or one hour if he disassociates going into the crate with being in for 8 hours you may have better luck.

I think the first thing you need to do is get him used to the crate. When your home, practice with him a few nights a week. When he goes even near the crate...lots of praise and yummy treats. You also need to work on the leash problem...he see's that leash = crate. Also try practicing the leash and collar, give treats when he does have them on. It may take a while to adjust to both the crate and leash/collar but he will!!!

I know that dogs love car rides and walks, maybe if you start taking him for car rides and short walks he will see the collar/leash as "fun time!"
When you said he doesn't listen to sit and stay, is he completely trained on those commands? Is he in training classes or do you just work on that from home? Maybe step up on the training too.

Oh yeah, try a kong with some yummy peanut butter or yogurt...I promise Diesel will love you for that :) As soon as he see's you getting it ready he will run right into that crate. Stay persistent and have lots of patientce it will pay off!

Good Luck!
