OK yall I have been mulling it over on whether to add a second Boxer to our home, and I keep a look out on petfinder all the time, well there is this 4 year old girl there named Dakota, who I will be bringing home tomorrow night. I am hoping to make the transistion as smooth as possible for her. Any tips?

Congrats!!!!! As far as tips just keep a close eye. Oh, and ask the foster parents tons of questions if they have more than just the foster at home. When we brought Austin home in June there was tons of grumbling before we were all settled in. Funny thing was Keagen, oldest and leader of the pack played with him non stop and Kendall, now the middle child and 2nd in the pecking order, grumbled every time he came near. Now the majority of the time he plays with Kendall I guess she just needed to establish that she was ahead of him in the pecking order and then everything was fine. It took almost 2 weeks through. Bet my neighbors thought I was raising dogs for fighting or something! :)

Great job for taking an adult female! They always seem to be the more plentiful on the rescue sites. Guess it is just because sometimes the gals don’t play so nice with each other.

Good Luck!

Good for you :D Just take it easy, dont force her to do anything to quickly. Let her explore the house without your other dog for a while (im sure he will be very excited and want to play) so she knows her way around. Give her her own space to go to like a bed or crate that she can go to if she gets scared. And above all, enjoy her!

Introducing them

Might want to try to introduce them all away from your house/yard. It's always good to have them meet on neutral territory, that way, noone's threatened and there's no "this is mine" kind of thing. That will come later at home once they know each other. But good luck, I'm sure everyone will just all fall into place with each other. How fun for you! The more the merrier I always say......and hubby grimaces everytime I say it.....:).....

Congratulations on your new addition. There's alwayssome adjustment to go through but homefully it will be a short periodand you stillhave some sanity and energy at the end. I think we take things more to heart than the dogs do when establishing the order of things. It's natural for them but we just want everyone to get along.

I agree with the neutral territory. Maybe a dog park if you have one. Lots of scents around and they can have other distractions too.
