My husband and I rescued a female boxer from our local animal shelter. The shelter told us that she would not be eligible for adoption until her heartworm check came back. When we went back 3 days later, they still had not sent it off and an employee in the back said they were not going to and she would be put to sleep. That employee helped my husband smuggle her out and she was saved. Well my question is how long after her milk begins to come in will she whelp? We just noticed that she was really gaining weight this past weekend and that her mammary glands were swelling. She was in heat when we got her about 5 weeks ago....
We were going to have her fixed around Christmas when I was going to be home from work alot, but now??? There's no telling what these puppies are going to look like...

She can be xrayed approx 7 days prior to whelping.

She also could be having a false pregnancy.

Hi Melissa, your vet *might* be able to tell now if she is pregnant. This site has an overview of whelping:

My female went through a very convincing false pregnancy, complete with mammaries and milk-like secretions. Let's hope that's all it is!
